Default Citibank are odd...

So, I am not sure if these geniuses have reached the UK yet. They are not in Ireland at least.

But, I just had the most bizarre conversation with them.
5 days ago I deposited 200 dollars cash into my local branch. I noticed it didnt go straight through, but expected it would at some point. Today I notice it still hasnt gone through, so I ring them.

After much chat about things like which bank (ie I am explaining to a bloke in India where my local branch is in Manhattan), he deduced that they lost the money.

What do you mean lost. Oh yeah, no big deal, it just vanished somewhere. Here, have 200 dollars, its fine, dont worry about it.

Ehhh. Ok. But, emm, where is this money?
Oh, not sure. Dont worry about it.
Eh. Ok...

That was today,

A few weeks ago, lets just say "a friend" withdrew a reasonably large amount of cash in multiples of 20's, and the machine gave out the right number of notes, just instead of being 20's they were 50's.
Lets just say that my friend exited rapidly somewhat richer, and heard nothing more about this.

In another incident just before the above, I was making an inquiry with one of the public service people, and she was very nice, polite, and helped me with some charges that the bank had levied. She then mentioned that she was finishing her shift in 30 mins, and since I worked up the road maybe I could meet her when she gets off.
I think she must have seen a slightly suprised look on my face, so she assured me that she lived "very close" and "we wouldnt be that long".

Now, I am all for friendly banking, but, I mean...
The list goes on.
Definately the most interesting bank I have ever come across.

That is very strange.

As for the ATM there have been similar cases on Halifax branches, the machine usually have a queue around the block- until the machine runs out of cash. The bank has to write the money off usually as all records show the lesser amount being withdrawn and the bank cannot prove that they gave out too much

We (HBOS) would be similiar, but probably a bit less blatant about it... We'd at least pretend to be looking for it, then pretend to find it But for small amounts of cash like that, seriously looking for it is pretty much a waste of resources. You check to see if it's gone into the wrong account, and if not it just becomes a cash deviation.

I used to run a cash of between a half a 2 million quid when I was in branches, and I guarantee your local corner shop is more careful about cashing up As long as the actual customer side balances, it's not all that important whether a particular pound is in a cash pool, a suspense account, whatever.

I see...

What you are saying Northwind makes sense. It just is uneconomic to search and scratch about for hundreds of dollars here and there when you are a massive multi million dollar organisation.

It just blows me away a bit that people who are in the business of moving money about seem to be so casual about it. That some guy in India can just dump cash into my account... I am a little amazed I suppose.

I read somewhere that Citi was the victom of the biggest bank robbery in history. The theft was carried out over the Internet, and Citi decided that it would cost less money to simple write the theft off, tell no one about it, and make sure that it didnt happen again.
The (allegedly) Russian dude simply walked.

ha ha ha.
She was a slim, middle aged black woman. Normally I am an avid fan of black chicks, but, she was a little too skinny for my liking.

And ehh, ahem, I am not sure if my other half would have seen the funny side.

I was very curious about what "wasnt going to take long" though...
