Default Wot, you talkin' to me?

Okay, for those easy-to-provoke IB posters, keep your cool dudes, we don't want too much adverse publicity:

(Actually, I thought it might have been a dedicated IBer when I first started to read the article )

I once went to a mailing list meetup that turned into a gigantic bar brawl... One guy walked in, said "Hi, I'm so and so" and another guy, who'd decided he hated him despite them having never met, lamped him in the face without even saying a word. Crazy stuff, ended up with half a dozen arrests and 2 guys in hospital And me hiding in the corner.

What? Any different from going to the AR? This was before messageboards etc, it was all Onelists and Majordomos back then.

It shows that there needs to be an element of self discipline, don't post anything that you would not be prepared to say face to face. Starting a heated thread thinking you are safe behind your anonymity I think is foolish. At some time you are going to forget, then post enough info, bit by bit, for the determined to find you.

I agree wityh what you say, but, I would think problems are more likely to arise because of how people react to what you say rather than setting out to be provocative, esp due to misunderstandings from posts compared with face to face. Plus you are probably mixing with people you would not mormally associate with in real life.

Anyway - look at your avatar
