Didn't really know a lot about this, pretty shocking stuff.

An American President condemming attacks (which included the French army) on an Arab country ? how times change.

Didn't see the programme but I can't say I'm surprised.

If theres one thing the Yanks have been consistent at over the years its being inconsistent.

In the same vein, who was the first person to gas the Kurds? And which country "invented" the concentration camp?

I think the answers to these questions may shock a few people.

The UK is responsible for alot worse crimes then that in the past... but then thats the past and thats where it should stay. Countries should learn from those things not go off and have a go themself.

Well, we did round up a few Boers......

It was during the Second Boer War.

We weren't the first though, that would be the Spanish.

'We' didn't gas them or kill them though, just held them for a while.

Interesting point, so because the atrocities committed by Great Britain where a little further back in history they become less significant ?

So in 100 years time the holocaust will cease to be important ?

No he just means that you can't judge a country on its actions of generations ago. Same way you can't say Germans are vicious Nazis because the curernt generation are a respectable country. Doesn't mean the original sins were any less bad.

Yeah I know, I was just trying to get some discussion going

Coming back to my original point though, do you not think you can draw some parallels between Suez and Iraq ?

Eisenhower wrote in his memoirs that it (i.e. his treatment of, and lack of support for the UK & France) was his biggest mistake ever.

He was right
