Default Passed MS Exams!

Been using SQL Server 2k since late 2k/early 2k1.

Figured that I should go for the exams as they'll look good on my CV & my current job is going nowhere fast except dead-endsville,

So last month I took the 070-228, Configuring and Administering Microsoft SQL Server 2000 and passed! Hooray!

Earlier today I did the 070-229, Designing and Implementing Databases with Microsoft SQL Server 2000 and passed! Double Hooray!

Just in time too...My new bos wants a meeting with me about the integration of my team into his team (Everyone else in my team has quit, they didn't like the new boss). Up until recently I was the only developer we had now we've got a new guy settled in & I suspect my boss only wants the one developer...and I am no longer indespensible.

There are times I need a good kick up the ar&e to do stuff & this coul;d be a pretty big wallop!

Go Me!!!!

Know of a job - but I think the commute / language barrier may be an issue

Congrats anyway! What are the exams like - I am going to have to do them at some point as I plan on going for my MS Solutions Developer certification (C# + ASP + Web Services + SQL admin). Just wondered what I am likely to face... Got 10yrs+ exp with MS development...

Well done.

Im about to embark on the MCSE exams over the next year so I have an inkling of how hard they can be to pass. So does this make you the MSDBA? Or do you have more exams to take before you get to put that after your name?

OK, so you have now got a toe in the water. forget all the MS crap and do the job properly.

Get some Oracle accreditation and learn what a proper scalable database solution is all about.

Sorry to have to say this, but if you want to eventually earn peer respect and serious money. Play with the big boys toys. Nobody is ever going to seriously consider putting their mission critical applications on a SQL Server solution.

similar response to my previous for you as well. Developer of "(C# + ASP + Web Services + SQL admin)". Sorry but get java, + JSP, JSF and Oracle. Learrn to do web service properly which means understand XML, SOAP, WSDL UDDI etc. Learn to use J2EE, and again there is a huge demand for your skills.

This may now sound iffy, but if I was to look seriously at an unexploited technology with huge potential it would be in the development of flash based applications. Yes people know flash as a resource hungry graphics app. But there is is alot more capability built in. Feature rich database apps can be built in flash, because most people already have the run time deployed a quick "web" based data application is therefore possible.

My commiserations Dirk, still I guess someone has to do it....

LOL - Gratz dude.

You are right about kicks up the **** - I just got one - 30 days notice of not having a job.

Still have a lead on a couple of months (at least) contract work, so not totally disasterous.

Sorry but I can't agree with that. I have plenty of respect from the people I care about. I hate Java with an absolute passion, used it in the past and have to say I'm just not impressed with either performance or productivity of the language. The only thing that I can say I prefer to .Net is the event model for JSP. The model is way too complex in .Net. I work with ex Java developers who also share this view.

I've made some huge apps with MS technologies (300+gb SQL Server 2K DB's that were lightning fast). Fine that's approaching top end for SQL and Oracle can go further, but really in most businesses you just can't justify the extra expense.

Besides, I love my current job (both salary and atmosphere) and as it's an MS shop I wouldn't have even got a look in without any MS experience.

I'm afraid I have to ask why Java developers think they are gods gift - as a generalisation it's as bad as Apple fan bois talking about their shiny over priced poisonous machines...
