I was talking to an old hand (sorry mac) at the weekend and he suggested cutting out the stock baffle as it makes a big difference to the sound.
![]() Questions: 1. Has anyone done this, if so how did it go? 2. Is the exhaust still legal?? 3. will it pass its mot?? Sorry but changing for an aftermarket can is an expence too far at the moment. |

Just save your pennies for now.......good things come to those who wait. The stock system is SOOO heavy- I couldn't believe how much when I cut mine off. ![]() Personal recommendation for a pointy..... see Here which you probably have already. I wanted to do what you suggest after reading about mufflerectomy as they call it on SVRider
![]() Result was vastly improved sound for free, Baffle did not wobble so looked stock, so don't see why it wouldn't pass an MOT and the reduction in overall bike weight of 5% was not achieved (approx saving of race can) and no improvement to look of the bike - not bad for free ![]() |

I also did a lot of holes on my stock can baffle !
Its for free ,sounds better , and its louder , i just drill a couple of holes on the baffle until i was happy with the sound ! A word of advice ... the holes made the bike fell like it had lost some mid range torque ! I ended up buying a aftermarket can , witch sounded even better , not louder but had a deeper sound witch i love ![]() |

It was suggested i use a small disc cutter (like a dremil) inside the end pipe to cut it back about 2 inches. The end of the can would then only have one inner ring instead of the two. Having looked at the construction of the exhaust I'm not sure this would make any difference to the noise.
The methods mentioned here (drilling holes) would as some of the sound waves in the chamber could pass directly out without entering the end pipe. Again this is witha very basic understanding of how the exhaust is constructed and works. so could be entirely wrong. |
