Default Hot Hands vs Hot Grips

Cold weathers on its way (ok its been here 95% of the year) I am thinking of getting either hot hands or hot grips for my SV. Whats peoples experances of both good and bad?

I can vouch for the oxford hot grips i rode thru last winter 60 miles a day. I can imagine how bad it would have been without them. On motorways it is essential. The adjuster dial means you can get the temp just right for all conditions.

I'd like to hear some more feedback too, I've heard many users say they're fine for roasting palms but fingers (the problem area for me) remain cold, especially on the top side.

How's it for you?

I used them last year, very good. Only problem is that it does (or did for me anyway) leave the top of my hands feeling cold when the weather was particularly grim. I'm now commuting on the M25 everyday, I'm assuming when the weather gets too bad I'll have to switch to a car as my hands won't make 30 miles on the motorway. But the weather will have to be damn cold for that.

I like the Hot Grips- they're neater and I happily leave them fitted all year, wouldn't do that with Hot Hands, and if you get caught out in miserable rain or something they can be nice to have. They're not much harder to fit either. Could do with them being a bit hotter, mind... But combined with a pair of good winter gloves (I like Pathans, but I might get something else next time) that keeps me reasonably warm all winter.

I had heated grips on my learner CB125, about 12 years ago, and had the same problem with them. I haven't bothered with them on any bike since, even though I ride right through the winter. However, I'm now considering getting some of these Chilli heated glove liners:

You wear them inside your normal winter gloves and they have a temperature control, like the hotgrips. They sound pretty good - has anyone tried them? The advantage is that they warm your whole hand and they can't be accidentally left on. Besides, there's no room under the seat of my Speed Triple to fit a relay for heated grips - the alarm takes up all of the available space - so these look like the best solution.

It's still far too warm to even think about getting them at the moment. I'll probably wait until November or December (or January!)

They look really good, i like the idea of being able to wear my summer gloves ontop whilst keeping my hands warm. I find wintergloves can be a little too bulky and remove some control, but wearing these under summer gloves should be a little better.

You could fit the relay somewhere else- they're only about an inch to a side (plus a wee bit for wires). My grip relay's just behind the headstock...

Quite tempted by those, though.

My hotgrips were great until the control box died...
