Hi everyone,
Does anyone have any / know of any remedies or methods that might help my girlfreind stop feeling sick? She;s been ill for a couple of days and hasnt been able to sleep much and I just want her to feel better (as does she)...she;s not having dairy products and heavy food, just plain stuff like toast. She's worried about falling behind on her uni work too because she hasnt been able to do much feeling so crap... Matt |

Feeling sick or actually being sick? Any "loose stools" with it?

Feeling rather sick, not actualy being sick, although she was sick last night because she made herself. Nothing the other end (lol) and she hasnt been docs, we're not really sure that they can do anything, and its hard to get an appointment on short notice at the university doctors.
She;s keeping food down but feels pretty rough, I cant think of anything that might help her feel a bit better so she can get some sleep. Matt |

Just eat plain food like you've been doing and drink plenty of water and see if she can flush through her system with whats upsetting her system. Theres stomach bug going around my work place at the moment, has anybody she has been in contact with been feeling ill in a similar way ?
Failing that try a local pharamsist and see what they recommend failing that off to the Doc's I'm afraid.

Ok, fair enough. Yea, her family (her name is maria, btw, and she says hello) have had a bug going round, and we where there last weekend. It didnt develop until wednesday evening though.
Thanks for the sound advice so far. I'll be popping out tomorrow anyway so i'll ask the local pharmacist for something. Hopefully they wont offer Motillium 10, because thats not working... Matt |

My advice is keep it simple.
Toast is good - better well done/slightly burnt as the burnt bits, i.e. carbon, will adsorb the toxins that her bod id trying to get her to reject by hurling the contents of he stomach onto the sofa. If she is going to actually be sick then don't fight it as its the best thing she can do. She needs to drink plenty of fluids; water is best. Id she's not actually being sick then she needs to anaesthetise her tummy lining to reduce the "hurl reflex" and reduce any muscle spasms that go with it. If she had the "squirts" as well as feeling sick I'd recommend "kaolin and morphine" but that's not the case here. Might help in a small dose dose, but not too much or she'll get "egg bound". Tbh, best thing you can do is keep her hydrated with lots of water. |

I work for an Out of Hours GP service - you'll have something similar covering your GP surgery.
Ring the normal GP surgery number and you should get either put through to, or the number of your local OoH provider. They'll deal with the problem, either by Telephone Advice or they'll get your gf into one of their Urgent Care Centres, or even give you a Home Visit if required. There are injections to deal with nausea if necessary. |

Thanks Jabba, thats some good info. I think her mum recomended the "kaolin and morphine" pharmecutic, but maria couldnt hear properly on the phone to make it out clearly. I'll get some maybe, it should calm her down.
We'll stick with the water and toast, thats what I've been giving her mostly, and hopefully she'll be settled tonight. Maria asks what you mean by "egg bound"? Matt |

If she does go down the kaolin & morph route then after she starts to feel less nausious she needs to start drinking lots of water to help prevent it. |
