Default Accident On A2

Did anyone else see the accident on the A2 this morning?

It is the first bad one I have seen involving a motorbike, since I have been riding and it unnerved me a bit. It gave me a reality check big time!

I was in a line of about 4 bikes filtering through the stationary traffic, when we got to the front we looked to our left and there was a bike facing the wrong way down the carriageway on its side against the barrier on the slip road.

The slip road was closed and an ambulance and police were still in attendance. I have to admit to going a bit cold at that point, bike accidents always seem to look worse than car accidents.

The bikers reactions, all seemed to be the same (including me!) but all seemed to be equally strange.

After looking over to the left and seeing the accident, all of the bikers almost stopped dead and seemed to pause for a few seconds reflection, then all in unison shook their heads, then rather than moving off at a slow and safe pace, absolutely hammered it, myself included. There were plenty of Police about but none of the bikers seemd to give them a thought.

I wasn't doing it to follow them it just seemed like the natural thing to do. Has anyone else experienced this strange phonomena? The road ahead of the accident was clear, maybe this had something to do with it.

Maybe - I just put 2 and 2 together and came up with 5.

It just seemed a bit strange to me! Especially as I did it too....

A nice clear bit of road after filtering for ages? I defy you to find a biker that wouldn't accelerate away.

Similar reaction to similar circumstances with me.

Slow down to see if its someone you know and or whether they are fixing the rider or bagging and tagging. Probably say/think a few words hoping he is fine.

Shake head because you know it probably wasn't his fault, also the "there but for the grace" feelings.

Blat off down the road because you know that if you didnt, you would take the bike home, put it into auto trader and give up on it all, the Blat reminding you of the highs of riding, balancing out the extreme low you have just felt

Well my interpretaion of it anyway.

Its the same thing that makes you say 'noooooo' and hoping your bike does not get damaged when its sliding down the road and not realy thinking about yourself first. Also after the crash you get up and run to see if your bike is ok before anything else.

God yeah. Been there, done that. Hysterical at the damage to the bike with no thoughts to the rapidly swelling knee. Adrenaline is a funny old thing.

Hope the person in the accident was OK

I think that is exactly how I felt this morning and probably why I did exactly the same as the other riders.

I had the same thoughts of 'why exactly I wanted to ride a bike',but flipping my wrist back a little blew those thoughts straight out of my visor!!!

I'm sitting here thinking of faining a headache or something and going for a ride in the sunshine to remind me why I bought the bike!

Anyone fancy it?

Same happened to me when I saw a bad one on the M25. Stopped, had a gander made me feel rather uneasy about biking and then I saw the clear road and gave it a handful. I think this is just our way of dealing with it. Strange though.
