I'd like an sv650 or 400
Heya, just passed my A2 test and am looking at getting an SV. What do you all think of them? are they nice to ride? I currently have an NSR125.
I like the pointy ones, but would consider a curvy lol. How much should I expect to pay? I have a budget limited to how much I can get for my NSR |

Go for an older curvy one as they are just as good but cheaper,but don't forget to budget for much higher insurance than you pay on a 125.
And yes,the sv is an ideal first big bike.

keep an eye on for sale section....you can pick up a nice one for under £1500.
insurance group 10 compared to cbr600= 16 get a quote (hoe old r u) |

I looked into the insurance a while ago. £517 TP only thats all I can afford, if i try to re-insure my NSR125 it's £646 go figure. I can also insure an r6 for only £576 lol.
What a joke. I'm 18. |

Both bikes are good, the pointy and curvey (Refers to body shape) the pointys being the later shaper (2003 onwards) As for the bike I jumped on this bike from passing my DAS, and from a scooter. Im a big chap so didnt find it to hard to adapt. It will be heavier than the nsr, taller, faster, quicker etc etc. But as long as you respect that for a good few months and dont try any heroics, then you will be just fine. Im still learning to ride mine, 6 years and 49000 miles later. Everyday is different. |

What's your budget?
A good model, older bike which is cheaper, would allow you to pay that bit more on insurance. 1st bike, you're really likely to drop it or be involved in an accident, so if you can I'd recommend fully comp. And phone every insurance company in the yellow pages and from a google search for "motorbike insurance". May take a couple of hours, but could easily save you a couple of hundred pounds (that you could use on a better bike or some riding gear. On which note, don't forget to budget for lid, jacket, trousers, boots, gloves and security equipment (assuming you don't allready have good examples of these). If buying a bike from a dealer you'd probably get a reasonable discount at this time of year if you buy all from one shop. Andy |
