I'll use in any weather except snow. But thats only because i live on a hill and it never gets gritted. I tried it one and fell over about 3 times so wont do it now. other than that, all year round...well for the commute anyway. Pleasure riding only happens on clear crisp days

Im usualy out in all weather conditions.. even dragged a few on here througha snow storm on the Brecon Beacons once...

as for looking after the bike, hoze it down after everyride.... as you said, a bit of WD40 in the keyholes does work.. just had to do mine.. ACF50 is your best friend.. my Kwak doesnt suffer that bad, but when I had the SV, it went through 1 winter, and lookied like it was about to fall appart the mounting points for the footpegs furr very quickly, so keep those doused in ACF50... the axle nuts/bolts also tend to go manky as well... and try and keep your forks clean.. front of the engine, again.. cover in ACF50.. and get a fender extenda.... doesnt only keep water off your front plug, but stops all manner of crap getting onto your radiator as well....
and again, if you didnt hear me the first time.. ACF50 is your best friend.... cover your bike in it (appart from tyres and brakes..) dont worry if your bike starts to look dirty.. it atracts dust for a start.. and it sticks then... it is doing its job.. then come summer, or when you feel like the bike DOES need a wash.. use some gunk, or motor cleaner stuff.. it'll clean up nicely then....

also keep an eye on your fluid levels on the bike... making sure you have coolant in your radiator.. and not just water... as that'll make a mess when it gets real cold...

WD40's a rubbish lubricant... if you want to lube exposed bits, there's better for basically every application. I use engine oil for most jobs, or grease where it needs it. Pay particular attention to cables...

ACF50 is the business. Basically, apply it well at the start of winter, and maybe do it again in the middle, and a tramp bike like mine that never gets washed will come out the other side of winter in a better state than one that gets washed every day. What you're doing, when you wash daily, is of course getting rid of all the muck, but it also ensures that the bike goes away soaking every night, and as soon as you hit the road in teh morning you get a nice fresh layer of road filth on uprotected parts. There's other things that protect just as well, but they don't last as well.

All year round, except that my SV is broken down. So Im using the car at the moment as the GSXR is tucked up snug in the garage and wont come out till the spring now.

I've ridden home from work in snow as I had no choice. It can be tricky getting out of my estate if theres been a hard frost as they don't grit the road outside my house. But if I'm careful I can get out onto the main road.
