Just changed the oil in my 2001 curvy and managed to over-fill it a bit. Not by a huge amount, if you hold it just off vertical it is on the full line, when vertical it’s at the top of the sight glass.
I’ve taken it for a quick ride. Not smoking, clutch seems fine, can get neutral with no problems, does not seem to behave or sound any different to usual. So question is do I need to drain a bit off or just leave it alone and not worry about it. What would the symptoms be of an over-fill? Obviously if it was well over-filled I would get all sorts of problems, but I can not imagine Mr. Suzuki engineered in particularly tight tolerances on the SV that would be upset by 100ml or so of extra oil. If it does spell problems, any idea where I can get a syringe on Easter Sunday ? I have a ride out planned for Easter Monday and do not want to kill my bike. Cheers, Mark

you can suck the oil out with a tube, just put the end in de hole where you poured the oil in en then suck at the end (watch out that you don't get any in your mouth, but that whould have come into your mind already

So if it gets thrown into the airbox will it just go into the engine, get burned and smoke a bit or will it make a right mess of the air filter and cause problems?

You could use a seringe with a tube on it to remove some oil out of the filler!!!! No oil in your mouth then

From experience, too much oil makes the gears and clutch very sticky. It is also better to run it below the max than above for reasons of blowing oil seals and gaskets.
I would drain it out before a long ride |

Just take the sump drain plug out for a second or two. It's messy but it works. If too much drains out, you can always put some more back in again.
