Hi all, I have been through the search engine but haven't really found anything to help me.
I got the bike back after 1 month in an outside garage and it started fine. Now I get nothing from the ignition switch (no noises) and the on the 20th attempt it starts. I checked the spade connectors on the clutch and cleaned them but this had no effect. I suspect a corroded switch or bad connection but want to know if it is easy to take apart the switch housing and clean all the contacts or are most of the switches sealed units??? Many thanks and merry Christmas! |

You'll find three circuits which can prevent the starter circuit from engaging.
1./ kill switch 2./ clutch cut out 3./ side stand switch the side stand and clutch switches can be bridged to negate them for testing. the kill switch is exposed by removal of the right hand switch cluster from the handle bars. It would also be worth tracing the ignition switch wiring from the switch to the multi-plug (found under the front of the tank). you won't be able to get into the ignition switch as it's a sealed unit, however you can check with a meter through the attached multi-plug. Cheers Mark.

The battery seems to be fine....it will start eventually after much perseverance, when the switch does work, the motor starts with no problem or needing any choke and the headlights are bright.

Hope you all had a good Christmas
![]() We took all the switch gear apart today, cleaned it with electrical contact spray and tested all the connections with a multimeter... my wonderous fella even managed to dismantle the starter switch/spring so we could clean off the corrosion. This seemed to do the trick, but the clutch cut-out switch didn't move all the way over with the lever so we switched it manually and the bike started fine ![]() ordered a new switch this afternoon so fingers crossed will be on the road again soon Cheers for all the advice & Happy New Year ![]() |

I have a 2000 SV Curvy, and this sounds very similar to my problem. I had a friend come round the other night who said my immobilisor seems like it's had its days since it's now standing outside and my alarm indicators don't even come on! This Saturday he is going to completely remove my alarm for me. The battery is new and is fully charged. What do you guys think??
