I have now finally managed to get my 6yr old daughters pc linked into the home network, so she is now happy learning all there is to learn on the world wide web highway of knowledge.
She especially likes to google for pictures on her favourite topics. My concern is that she will end up going somewhere that is not suitable for a 6yr old. Does anyone know how I can filter the content that she has access too. ? Can I adjust settings within Internet Explorer or do I need an additional program to be able to do this? If I need additional software, is there any where that I can download FREE programs in order to achieve this? Thanks from a rather concerned father. ![]() |

There are a lot of applications available for filtering content such as you speak about, some are free (check google) and more than likely some more useless than others.
Maybe try a visit to PCworld - they should have something that has been tried and tested, but that option wouldnt be free. Alternatively, (I hate to say this) but AOL do some very good filtering. Their customer support is rubbish though, so unless you know your way around your PC/Internet connection then I would steer clear of that option. Pete |

Thanks Pete. I checked google but it seemed to keep sending me to sites that were offering free for a trial period but nothing more. Free has got to be the way it is. Totally destitute I am.
![]() Thanks again. I shall continue on with the google search. I'm sure I shall find something eventually. |

Google itself also has a filter for adult/child acceptability although you wouldn't actually be able to check this was on unless you were stood next to her.

IE has some level of content filtering available on it. Not sure how good it is though. At least it would be free. we used to use it on the school networks I used to configure it used to stop most of the dodgy stuff getting through. Might be of use.
