I'm looking at an SV400S, S plate, 23K miles etc etc, its a yellow one that was listed as being sold on here but apparently the deal fell through. I've been offered 1200, but there was a K2 SV for £1250 with half the mileage and half the age.
I quite like the 400 - the two bikes are cosmetically very similar and as I'm on my 33bhp for another year, this SV400 which is restricted, wouldn't be too bad a choice I don't think. I heard that 400 imports are always overpriced and consequently I am wondering how hard the 400 will be to sell in a year or two. I have the feeling I'll lose quite a lot of money if I go for it, wheras a 650 would be more likely to retain its value - even though a 98 400 and a k2 650 cost the same now. Thoughts? |

I'd agree, 650 and a restrictor kit

The 400 is nice but I just needed confirmation not to buy it, always overpriced, harder to resell etc etc

As I understand it (and I may well be wrong) it's the same as a curvy SV650, only with a smaller capacity engine (presumably sleeved down to reduce capacity) and a single front disc brake. I'm not sure I see a major appeal

It's different bore and stroke, and revs a little higher (if you put a 400 CDI into a carbed 650, incidentally, it raises the rev limit to something daft like 11500rpm. Which I'm sure is fun while it lasts

Hey Buddy.
Same bloke off BCF here. If it's any help to you, I have a 33bhp kit for the 650 that I would be willing to give you the dimensions of so you could make your own kit. I'd make it myself for you if I knew what to use and where to get it. I'd go for the 650 personally as it means you won't have to upgrade as 'quickly' if you get bored. The sv takes very well indeed to restriction. 400 or 650 I'm sure. Go for what is available and what is closest. Without doubt, the 650 will be easier to shift come selling time. |
