8k revs and nothing happens!!!! help

need a little help here guys,
took her out for the 1st time in about 2 months and ride was fine till about 30mins into it when im opening it up and i hit 8k revs and she stops accelerating but the engines still reving and revs go up.

is this my clutch slipping?

if not what else can it be?

also on a scale of 1-10 how hard is this problem to fix.

it does sound like clutch slip,

check your clutch is adjusted properly, also, check the chain hasnt come off the spockets and is tentioned correctly,

if this doesnt solve it, come back here and wait more more intelligent life forms to come along.

How old is your oil when was it last changed?

oil is only about 2.5-3k miles old and chain is set up ok.

must be the clutch
any ideas on what the costs will be?

how olds the bike and what oil did you put in?

it might be the air filter - it could be blocked so the engine cant suck in enough air for the high revs

It's about time for an oil change anyways. How many miles have you got on the chain/sprockets? In anycase check the front sprocket to make sure it's not worn. It should be obvious if it's knackered ie hooked teeth or missing teeth.

If I were you I'll do the simple bits first.
*Check the sprocket then you can eliminate that.
*Then oil and filter change(no matter the outcome of above) and then make sure the clutch is correctly adjusted(clutch lifter). Manual tells you how to do that and copy is on the site.

Something is definitely slipping. Most likely is the clutch, but it could be the chain. As everything else is a mechanical coupling and not viscous there is a limit to what can be wrong!

If the bike is in gear and the engines doing 8k revs it can only be the clutch. The chain can't "slip" it can only jump off the sprocket and you'd really know about it if that happened.

Don't forget there are two cable adjustment - one at the lever end on the handlebars and one at the casing end. Make sure both of these are correctly adjusted.

If the front sprocket is very worn especially with too much slack on the chain it can indeed slip. It's happend to one or too on here. I've had experience of that myself (many moons ago) and I initially thought it was the clutch slipping.

EDIT: I'll agree that technically, the chain isn't slipping but the front sprocket is spinning without driving the bike and the feeling/result is similar to a clutch slipping.
