Default Card readers - how do they work?

Ive had a nokia phone with all singin 'n dancin pix, video, music, radio etc etc for a year....finally bought meslef a card reader - im pretty sure its the right type - SD...but i cant make it work...

The maxell helpdesk said i had to do some complicated stuff to do with resetting the USB driver settings (or something)....no good, couldnt get near it, the things they siad would happen didnt & werent there in the first place...which made me think the Windows 2000 OS ive got might be the problem, but it should work with that...

so - anyone got any clues , the manual talks about connecting the phone, and doesnt mention doing it by the memory card, but theres no way of connecting the phone to the pc without bluetooth (not got)

SO does anyone know what to do, got any experience of this problem...

Its possable that the reader is trying to mount itself on drive letters that are already in use, this can happen with many readers and needs a little bit of a rummage though the Computer Management panel.

TSM - yes - thats what the helpdesk bod said but his directions to fix just dint begin to work - thats why i mentioned my ancient OS, i probably wouldnt have these problems if i had XP or Vista, thing is if you mess with that, do you lose all your 2000 data ?

I'd throw the card reader back at them and just buy a bluetooth dongle ... they are not expansive ... for example:- Dongle

{quick check}

I think it does (has a tick besides) 6230i Spec

The other thing to do is to buy a data cable and use the nokia data suite thingy ... again ... ~£5 for a data cable clicky .... I'd go data cable over bluetooth myself ... the transfer rate on bluetooth is pretty pap and setting it up can be a sod!

You will still want the card in the phone, but you won't need a card reader (or is that what you meant?!? )

Unfortunately (or should that be fortunately? ? ) I pretty much never have cause to go to London, but it looks like you cover many of the race meets/trackdays, so there is a chance we might both be at the same event at some point!? ... What did you have in mind anyway?
