Default Caught - but what by ?

On Saturday, driving up the motorway towards Chester, I think I may have been caught going a little fast. The question is, by what ?

The motorway was almost empty and I had the cruise control on (in the car) set to 90, so in real life about 85 according to the GPS. I saw something on the bridge ahead, and when I got nearer it looked like a police van and a man in a fluorescent jacket. There were 3 tripods set up, one for each lane, with a small device on top of each. I banged the anchors on and got the speed down to just over 50 as I went under the bridge, but think it was a bit too late

Any idea what these things might have been - I'm guessing some sort of laser detector. How would it have registered my number plate ?

Sounds like it could be ANPR...seen them with it on theM25, M4 and M40 recently with coppers sitting at the next junction waiting for the unlicensed/taxed/MOT'd vehicles.
If its the same then you may be lucky.

I got stuffed on the M56 going towards Chester about 10 months ago. The cameras are a regular feature on the Daresbury bridges and they have started using any bridge they feel fit.

Its usually a transit, parked off the bridge with a camera which I presume incorporates a laser. It was the yellow jacket that alerted me but a little too late to get down below the 70. I reckon I was 3/400yards off the bridge.

I was clocked at 89, £60 and three points.

In hind sight I can't remember seeing any warning about radar in operation, and I can' t remember if they have to put a sign out to say as much. But as I was concentrating on the driving and not looking too much at the hard shoulder there could well have been one.

A couple of weeks after that they had the same set up on the M60 just after junction 3, I did see that sign but only after I had clocked the yellow jacket.

Here's hoping it was ANPR

Camera on all three lanes? APNR for sure

Don't need three cameras for a speed trap.
