Default K&N Air Filter

Has anyone fitted one of these to a K model SV.

Is it worth it?

Is it easy?

Any performance gains? - or does it make the bike sound like a tractor??

I fitted a K&N to my k6 model just a few weeks ago. A very simple job. Undo and prop up the tank, undo the screws holding the top of the airbox (8 screws I think), remove the old filter and the lower sealing rubber 'o' ring. Fit new K&N, making sure it sits in the groove vacated by the 'o' ring, replace airbox lid and screws, and refit tank.

As to any performance gains I'd there has been none. But my understanding is that the standard airbox lid and snorkel are not good for flow. I believe JHS does a kit that does away with ther airbox lid entirely and tank raisers can be got from Chewy.

I was under the impression a K&N did away with the air box. It certainly did on my RS125. Is this not the case on an SV650???

It certainly didn't with mine. But maybe mine is just a replacement element typre rather than a more race type version?

It doesn't do away with the airbox - very easy to fit and in combination with removing the snorkel and tank raisers gives you a good sound.

in terms of gains don't expect to see anything performance related. Only gain is that if you ride a lot then you won't need new airfilters as the K&N just needs cleaning and oiling.
