Thier admins have collated a list of contact details for members who can offer assistance to others in the event of a problem whilst out.
Whilst most of us tend to have recovery etc. It would be nice to know in the event of a problem that somebody local to your location who could provide the use of their garage/tools, turn up at the roadside with a can of fuel, puncture repair etc. I recently assisted a broken down biker, who was having chain problems about 200yrds from my house. I was able to remove his front sprocket cover, put the chain back on, adjust the chain correctly and bollock him for his lack of maintenance. He was facing the prospect of pushing the bike 8 miles home as he had no recovery, no other transport etc. I was glad to help and the wife even provided him with a brew whilst we got him going again. I am sure there are many like minded people on this forum. and it would simply be a matter of compiling a list of contact telephone numbers, services they could provide, ie garage, tools, recovery etc. and their location. Access to the list to be restricted and the contact telephone numbers of those with access given to requesting forum members. That way when you are 200 miles from home and run out of fuel, hopefully there will be somebody a couple of miles away who could turn up with a can etc.

I agree, it's a good idea, although not sure how it would work, don't fancy having my details up on a public forum :P
Anyone in the Guildford need the use of a garage and a set of tools and stands, or an emergency can of fuel then PM me. |

I'd be happy to put my work phone down as contact for anyone in need of a place to pull over or someone to courier down petrol in the Luton Dunstable area (I'm a spit from Junction 11 on the M1)
I carry it round with me all the time and is easy to change if I start getting nuisance calls ![]() |

OK, I can look to set something up.
I would suggest we get people who wish to offer their services to register their details on a site. Publicly all that would be visible would be thier nickname, location and service they could offer. The person requiring assistance types in a message and this message is sms to the registered helper. If you can then assist the broken down biker you then text/telephone them. Not perfect but personal details would be anonymous. The broken down biker or his representative would not have your telephone number, name etc. Those would be stored on a computer with no access. I am thinking of setting something up to provide this type of service. It would however cost me the price of an sms message, so I would have to look how costs could be recouped I just need to think this through a little more

Tim,
The new forum format allows you to "paste" spreadsheets into a post (I know because it did it unexpectedly for me...) That may be a way of holding the info together, and maybe use an announcement in each of the sections... Just an idea. I have tools, but don't rely on my standard of workmanship or knowledge when it comes to things mechanical. I'm just of J4 of the M4, by Heathrow and work on Stockley Park just up the road. . |

I think it is a tad early for people to post any details, until we/I sort out specifics.
My main concerns are Security, I respect you privacy and would not want your details available to all and sundry. Availability. It is no good after the event. I need to have a mechanism where a biker in trouble can get the assistance of a like minded soul. Without too much difficulty. Matching up the two above criteria should be interesting. Only once I have a soloution in place am I likely to call for volunteers

I have been a member on gixerboyz.co.uk for a very long time (cracking site), and I'm glad you like the idea. Works a treat for us as we too are scattered around the country.
