Hi there,
Am at my wits end...have broken down three times now and me / bike mechanics are scratching heads. Basically bike idles fine when cold but when warmed up soon starts to stall if at lower than 3000 rpm and soon starts to lurch, back fire and eventually cut out. So far mechanics have - cleaned carbs, replaced rear coil, replaced spark plugs, checked valves, cleaned jets, tested fuel, even swapped and tried another cdi unit. Still no joy...anyone know a London based SV650 expert? Having said that don't know whether its electrical or engine related. I love my sv and I'm determined to solve and ride again! |

He's got a point. The choke cables on the 99-02 SVs are a bit of a problem area, take them off the carbs if you can and clean them up, make sure it's moving smoothly and re-grease the cable. Water tends to run down inside the cable and corrode it at the front carb so it stick on. Do a search I'm sure someone else has put it better than me.
Check the simple stuff. Why not pop down to Frith St, Soho, on Friday evening and say hello? Many knowledgeable types there!

Soho massive details here:
http://forums.sv650.org/forumdisplay.php?f=115 But in short, Frith St outside Nero's (opposite Bar Italia) ![]() First people are usually there from 6:30pm depending, every Friday. Bring the bike along I'm sure somone will have a thought. A friend had a bike cut out when it got hot, turned out to be a problem with the wiring loom ![]()

As the others say, my first guess is sticking choke plungers. It can be either the plungers themselves or the cables, usually where they meet the plungers.
Presumably the electrical side of things is generally OK, reg/rec not playing up? |
