Default Help, they're the wrong springs

Help!!!!!

Just measured the ohlins springs I was about to put in my curvy forks and found out that they are the 428mm ones for the pointy, can't remember whether I bought them on ebay or off here but I'm sure they were advertised as curvy springs
Can I still use them in the curvy by reducing the spacer length to compensate and to get the right preload or will it just screw everything up?

Chris

Just had a look at the schematic for a pointy fork from the SV manuals page and it looks pretty much identical inside apart from having a longer spring and shorter spacer so I reckon I'll be ok.

I'll just keep replying to my own thread until I've convinced myself I think

HeHe I feel for you mate. You seem quite alone on this. Guess if the Ohlins springs are harder they can make up for being longer and use shorter spacers. It does make sense. Actually I've been meaning to see what difference there is between the two SV's in forks. They seem quite the same from the outside. I was trying to buy some fork internals from an italian company and they told me they're only for post 2002! If you've got the comparison sheets lets me know.

shortenening the spacer is fine as long as the overal length is the same.

Cheers Chunky, I did it anyway and the forks are ready to go on. My mate made me some new spacers at 80mm and the overall length is the same. The flat washer was just above the top of the forks before I put the tops on with the preload adjuster wound right off. I can increase preload easily now if needed or can cut the spacers down if they are too long. Thanks for the reassurance mate.
