Default Compulsory speed limiters?

Hi saw this on the news

http://today.reuters.co.uk/news/arti...1-ArticlePage2

Looks like some genius i the goverment has been thinking again.

This stuff has been talked about for ages wondering if anything is going to happen, i have only been riding 4 years but the goverment do seems to be talking/trying to pass a lot of laws recently

If the speed limit does happen, i wonder what it will be, probaly 155mph like the cars i guess. Will make things much safter i'm sure.

judging by the BBC lunchtime news they were seeming to discuss limiting to the actual speed limit, but that would require gps tracking (no prizes for guessing where this one's going)

"Giving evidence to the committee, transport author Stephen Plowden said he could not see why anyone needed a bike with a top speed of more than 65 mph."

?!?

Mr Plowden has obvoiusly never driven on a motorway then.

I wouldn't worry about it, just another barely thought out idea that won't happen, like the number plate and registration for off-road vehicles idea.

And if it does happen, Baph will make a fortune selling us all 'bypass' kits.

Hey now! That would be illegal (I'm assuming!)

Such kits, if available, would be purchased directly from your friendly MOT garage (since the MOT will no doubt be modified to check the unit too).

Whatever you do, don't ask why there's a gap there!

Surely, only as illegal as bolt on BS stamps for exhausts and 'show' plates? You sell as many as you like, it's not until the end user fits it that it becomes an offence.

Once again it's the simplistic notion that slowing bikes will stop accidents. I very much doubt that.

Looks at Rictus' case, no speeding problem there, just a numpty car driver. I can think of lots of near misses I've had and they've had nothing to do with speed, more to do with poor driving skills of the person wandering into my path of travel.

I wouldn't be prepared to put up with this after 30 odd years of biking, we need to hold onto some of our freedoms. More riders would look for by passes to the system and become criminals in the eyes of the law.

I'm all for making things safer, but lets use some sense. Banning guns hasn't stopped gun crime and I suspect that slowing bikes to a crawl won't stop idiots driving into us.

Argh!

John

65? How impractical would that be? We wouldn't be able to keep-up with the flow of traffic?

Super bikes will die as will regular nakeds, only a boom in scoots will occur, but look on the bright side, ya pizza might turn up hot for once on a restricted Goldwing
