Default how to convert speedo to mph?

Right,

I'm importing my bike back, so have to fit new uk type headlight and convert the speedo to mph for the VCA test I believe.

Has anyone done this before with the speedo? Is it best to do with a new face, new speedo or just some geared cable drive adapter?

Many thanks,

Tim soon not in Belgium

The SV has a leccy sender so a cable drive gear won't help, you can get leccy ones but as the speedo still has Km/h written on the big numbers I'm not sure this is legal. You can get those stickers that go over the face of the clock. They're totally useless at night but would get you a pass I think (This is what was done to the honda Bros 400 itching2go used to own). A new speedo would be ideal but could be quite dear

Maybe a sticker for now and then keep eyes open for a new speedo?

You could buy some of thoes glow guages but in MPH, simple change and it will look stock.

As for the headlight, i have seen several imports pass uk tests with the H7 & H4 type light.

The ER5 that I rode on my DAS had large scale KMH numbers and small scale MPH. On that basis, I'd assume that so long as you have MPH visible, and you can accturately tell what speed you're doing, it's legal & will pass the test.

So you should be ok as long as the headlamp is sorted. Full document here

Yep, seen that document, hence wanting advice on the speedo conversion. Thanks for the above tips, although the speedo has only km/h on it. I'll Probably go down the sticker route then to begin with and also go for a 2nd hand UK headlight.

Default Re: how to convert speedo to mph?

I'm now facing the exact same issue bringing my 2005 (pointy) SV650S back from the Netherlands. Since the speedo is digital, you'd think there would be some way of switching between MPH & KPH without having to change the whole thing, effectively clocking the bike. I can't see Suzuki going to the trouble and expense of creating two entirely different speedo types, so this must be a simple (if you know how) mod, I would have thought.
I'd be gutted to not be able to ride my beloved, so any help here would be greatly appreciated.
