Default My first helmet. Advice please?

Hi folks, first post of many, my names Tom, student from Crewe, noob on the biking scene, hopefully not for long.

In June i'm doing DAS and hopefully onto an SV650S, a couple of weeks ago after talking to some friends who own bikes, i went round a few bike accessory shops to get some gear, most importantly the helmet.

After spending about 40mins with one of the staff, came out with an OGK Aeroblade II, anyone have any oppinions of this helmet? Be honest!

I must have tried on atleast 15 helmets which were a terrible fit for this huge odd shaped head before coming across the OGK which was a suitable size and very comfortable. I noticed earlier when trying it on again that there is a bit of a twist, basically by lining up the 'nose cover bit' (appologies :S) i can twist it while it is on my head about 1.5-2cm left of right, it does ping back to centre when i let go, i'm just worried that there is too much play!

A friend who had a bike a few years ago told me that it should fit tight and i should be unable to move it at all so i'm a bit concerned, and when the pads soften up it will probably be more loose!

Also, the neck strap, should it be under my chin or more towards the bridge of my neck and chin, as when i tighten the strap, i can feel it on my neck, it doesn't stop me breathing, but i certainly know it's there.

I can't remember now but i am sure i would have asked the oppinion of the gent in the shop about these things, i just can't remember.

Many thanks.

I'm no "helmet expert"...(Fnaar)...but unless you're Skelator the flesh on your face will allow some movement. As long as it's good and snug, and your head doesn't rattle about inside you're OK. Just pick something you're comfortable with, and you're already doing the correct thing by talking to the staff. The cheaper lids are more likely to suffer from pads softening up, but you pay your money you take your chance! Just don't confuse difficulty getting the lid on with a snug fit as I did with my old Roof...which is a bit on the loose side now, but still bloody tight to get on.

Good luck with the DAS and welcome to the site!
Phil
