Default Adding Up No Claims?

I need to take out a car policy, (boo hiss i hear u cry)

Now i have had my licence nearly 5 years and am 22.

I have previoulsy been named driver with CIS who are being kind enough to give me 2 years no claims for one of their policies only as a gesture of "we know u havnt had an accident" type thing.

Now i also have proof from my company insurance that i have a further years no claims driving my company car for a year with no claims,(this is not earned concurrently with the 2 years above)

they will not add this as a third years no claims to the policy?? they say i can use either the two years their offering or take the one year from my company.

Are they playing by the rules or being mean?

Either way 2 years no claims still means that the insurance is £1100 comp for a sensible small car

ps... iv tried confused .com.

I do stand to be corrected but think of it this way

You take out an insurance policy for your bike. Ride for 2 years get the NCB for 2 years. Then 12 months pass and you don't have an insurance policy and on month 14 you decide to ride again and take a policy.

By the book you have just lost your 2 years NCB.

So I reckon they are playing by the book and I would take the 2 years NCB they offer

It varies from company to company how long before you lose your NCB, most allow 18 months these days.

As far as adding NCBs together, not a chance! You earn NCB against a particular policy and transfer that policy's NCB to your next policy. So if you insure several vehicles, you can have several NCBs of varying lengths - you don't have your highest NCB on all of them.

If you think about it, NCB is given for the length of time since you claimed on a particular policy. If I have not claimed on one for 3 years, but claimed on another 2 years ago I cannot ask that they be added together to give a total of 4 years NCB - not fair.

This also works to your advantage if you have a shunt though. I crashed my company car ( ) but this did not affect my personal NCB. It affected my premium as I had to inform my insurers of the claim.

But this is just daft, they say the risk is to great to have vehicles on multiple policies for argument sakes so you have to buy two policies, twice the expense twice the risk... so u get twice the no claims...!! so u have 2 lots of 1 years no claims, 2 x 1 = 2 ... surley?? if uv paid for it surley u can use it,,,

oh no wait...

thats right were screwed cause its insurance... sorry i forgot that...
