Default trip to France

Four other members of the WRC and I went to a place in France run by bikers for bikers. It was in a village called Bussiere Poitevine, midway between Poitiers and Limoges.

We left South Wales on the sfternoon of sept 22 and stopped overnight in a travelodge on the M2(Medway services). A room capable of sleeping 4 was £15 - so we had a room each - nice rooms too.

It started to rain as we passed Reading and didn't stop, so we got to the travelodge pretty well glove soaked. Dried out overnight though.

Next morning, still pssing down and we headed for the chunnel. Over in France still hammering down, and remained like that for the next 400 miles. The leg bottom waterproofing of my cheapo wet suit trousers shredded and water just poured into my boot tops and eventually soaked right thru to my toes. At the same time water got to other places and it got a bit uncomfortable , to put it mildly.

The ride south took about 10 hours. We had to stop too many times really to take a break from the constant downpour.

It was a relief to eventually get to where we were staying. Super place and a couple of great guys, Paddy and Chris, running it.

I was surprised how fresh I felt after the ride actually. No aches or pains at all and the bike stood the test well with only one forced stop to let the
front plug area to dry out. Maybe I should had fitted one of the two crap fenda extendas I've had stuck in my garage .

Next day the guys took us on some great fantastic twisty roads through forests and hills. Surprising how much better that French tarmac is.

The weather was great, hot and sunny all the while we were there. The daily rideouts were super and the food and booze was great.

The journey back up to Calais was much easier in the dry and we made good time. Only hiccup coming back was an overturned yoghurt Lorry on the Autoroute after Rouen. Quickly filtered thru the jam (no pun!) and got on our way again.

Back in the UK the rest went straight back to Wales and I went to London to see my daughter. How different from the French the UK car drivers treat bikers! No help whatsoever. Although some of the London bikers seem like lunatics. I got undertaken too many times to count.

Stopped overnight in London and went back to Wales the following day.

I'd recommend the trip we did to anybody, except that I would probably go to the Caen ferryport next time. The dogleg we did going via the chunnel was not the way to go..

Motobreaks is the name of the company run by Paddy and Chris - brilliant!

Sounds like you had fun. Did you get any pics?
Where did you go on the daily rideouts? I think I might find it feeling a bit restrictive staying at a place like that.

WE went thru the local forests and mountains(or hills). Did about 150 - 200 miles per day. We could have made our own rideouts but these guys new all the super roads. PIcs coming.

I cooked for everyone one night - we had free run of the house and outbuilding.

WE went to see the ducati 600 one day and took a BBQ to the track - brilliant day out

www.motobreaks.com is their website.

I've stayed with Paddy and Chris a few times now whilst they were setting up the business and can thoroughly recommend it as a top base for touring.
