Default Old SV (Bubble) vs New SV, help please.

Okay guys, I'm new around here, but i've been riding for ab out a year now and am looking for a step up from my 2 stroker 125.

My budget for a bike will be around 1600, and I haev a friend with an SV 650 and am very interested in pruchasing one.

I've been looking at both the old model and the newer model and am not sure whehter to hold out for a while and get another 1000, buying a newer bike. Or get an '00 with lowish miles for in my budget.

What are the main differences between the 2 other than fuel injection? Is performance similar? at similar mileage will they be equally as reliable?

Much thanks,

Elliott.

Just as you say Fuel injection and obviously looks. I would say get one now for the summer rather than save up and miss it.
The worst problem with carbs seems to be icing in the winter - so not relevant now. Power is similar, allegedly old Curvies have more, but i still relish beating one on track (straight line only due to rider error)

The carb icing is only a minor problem, easily fixed by putting Pro FST in the tank at winter. Or the best option, just ensure that you use Super Unlead fuel as this has additives in it to stop carb icing.

Hmm, well that makes me feel better about buying an older one.

Because, ive seen '01's with under 10k miles for the region of 1600-2000.

Wheras, 03+ for 17k+ miles for around teh 2100 mark.

Wouldnt it be more sensible to go for hte older bike with the lower miles say. I take it fuel injection doesnt increase reliability by a collosal (spelling apologies) amount?

Thanks for the quick reply.

Theres little difference between the two apart from looks.

Personally I'd buy the best bike I could for the money I had, Low milleage doesnt automatically mean thats the best thing to go buy.

A higher milleage bike thats been serviced, ridden and looked after properly and regularly, is going IMHO to make for a better buy than a low milleage bike thats been stood in a garage for months and months not being ridden.

Ah I see what you are saying,

I take it the best bet to be would be to strike it in the middle,

Good miles, good service history and knowledge of past owners.

THank you for all your help, great forum, will continue to use.

Elliott.

Suzuki's generally don't wear very well, unless well cared for, so that may influence you as well. Decide what you want extras wise as that may also be a factor, but best advice is to at least sit on both model types (not forgetting faired and naked options) and see which fits you best. Also try and blag test rides.

With £1600, you'll have no problems getting hold of a very good curvy. Just have a look at things like the forks, downpipes, hear the engine run and all that and you'll get a good idea of the sort of love its had.
