Default Rear Shock removal

Is there a tried and tested method for removing the rear shock to get a new ohlins replacment in there.

Do I need to remove the tank or can the top bolts be done from the side.

Are there any potential problems?

PS I have used the search function and I can't find an anwser.

I used:

1 ABBA stand
2+ soft dusters
1 adjustable strap (for the tying down of cargo etc), but you can use string etc.
1 heavy item to put on the front wheel to keep it down on the ground.

Also lots of tools, breaker bars, and extension bars.

If you have a rear hugger remove it!
Get the bike up on the stand.
Pass the strap through the top of the rear wheel and then over the seat.
USE THE SOFT CLOTHS TO PREVENT ANY SCRATCHING THAT MAY OCCUR.
Tension the strap so the rear wheel lifts slightly.
Undo the bolts on the bottom of the shock.
Let the rear wheel down slowly
Remove the top bolts from the shock
At this point decide whether you want to clean and lube the dogbones or anything else that's there!
Put the new shock in at the top.
Lift the rear wheel up to the right height so the holes on the dog bones and the hole on the bottom of the shock line up.
Tighten the strap os that the holes are all in line.
put the bottom bolts in.
release the strap.
Torque up to the right setting.

If you've got a mate handy use him instead of the strap!!!

So you managed to do it without removing the rear wheel at all???

Also what are the torque settings for the shock bolts top and bottom, and the dog bones?

Cheers,
Dan

Sure they'll be in a Haynes manual, worth getting if you're thinking about working on this type of thing with your bike.
