Not at all, its a fine bike that harks back to the days of err 'real muscle bikes' from the late seventies and early eighties but with much better brakes and suspension. The engine is a big heavy lazy afair, loopy torque and a modest (by todays standards) power but at low RPM, in effect the thing will pull like a tractor from nothing to redline. top speed is not what these are about, more lower speed comfort with neck snapping grunt. Just don't expect it to handle anything like the SV on the twisties and up the budget for boots.
I must confess I'd like to try one, just to see how it compared to its stone age predecessor I used to own, the XS1100 of 1982. Example pic, not my bike: ![]() Last edited by Beenz; 14-05-07 at 12:01 PM. |

I rode one a few years ago, it looks the business and the engine is lovely and lazy, very strong and smooth at the bottom. It does, however, weigh a lot and not carry that weight too well. I thought the SP version was a bit wobbly and that wasn't even doing a fast pace. Worth a ride though you'll know if it's for you pretty quickly!

Yes you are wrong.
![]() But I'm pretty sure a quick search will find you some posts by me stating that I, erm, liked the Burgman myself, so... ![]() |

I like 'em... But people keep on comparing unfavourably them with the GSX1400, Zrex and the like, not really fair- they're muscle bikes, the Yamaha is more of a short cruiser. I don't see me buying one, but they look ace.
