This year KillSpills have teamed with BIKEFest UK to host a unique event on 26th May - a KillSpills ride, a world record attempt and a spectacular bike show at the UK's Moto GP track Donington Park!

Diesel spills have been responsible for 617 casualties between 2000 and 2005 and that's why we've picked the 617 number - to highlight the menace of diesel spills.
You can take part in the unique 617 Ride from London to Donington and help rid us of this menace

Unbelievably only about 100 are signed & paid up for this as of today. I understand that a lot of people have disagreed with the direction this protest has taken this year, but I think it would be a crying shame if they could not get 617 motorcyclist to show that they cared about diesel spills.
Some people have been put off by the idea of paying to protest, but consider what you get for your £25 registration fee:-

I am refreshed to see that you are supporting this worthy cause, and that since I spoke to Stem, more of you have signed up. I thank you for that.

Its time to be honest with you all (that’s a new one for a copper) but I have heard that this ride may be in jeopardy.

Steve Edwards of KillSpills has not had the amount of people booked to cover the cost of his stamps, let alone the outlay pledged by the BMF.
They (the BMF) are thinking of downsizing the whole event so that they will not be criticised for wasting member’s money. I can see why, no one likes to waste money - especially me!

Thanks for your time and I hope to see you on the 26th nice an early. It will be a fun day out with your favourite London coppers.

I don't think I'll be going, I went last year and it was brilliant......thousands of bikes bringing central london to a standstill, what a protest should be all about!!

I don't believe in paying to protest either, what's the point? And the time that will be spent in London itself is very short and very early in the morning, hardly going to grab much attention.

Don't get me wrong, Killspills is definatey a worthwhile event, just seems as though it has been dulled-down with the whole "you have to apply to hold a protest" system in London.....utter shame

Its not about not caring, its about them being dumb enough to pick a Bank Holiday Saturday.

I imagine that most bikers with families/wives/girlfriends tend to reserve BH weekends to do stuff with them, in return they dont get grief when they want to go out on non-BH weekends.

I could be wrong tho

I totally agree with all your comments. Pete and I attended last year, but even if we weren't away with some Welsh reprobates this time, we wouldn't be going. It's not just the £40 quid we'd have to pay for the priveledge, but the fact that the whole thing seems to be down-sized and insignificant.

I'll second that...or third it, whatever.

Last year was great and when we parked up a Australian lady came over to me and said "This is so cool, all these bikes, all this noise. But is there a reason for it all or are you all out for a bit of fun?" She was genuine in her question and when i looked about i was dissapointed to see a serious lack of banners showing our cause.
Obviously its harder to display banners on a bike than it is on a car or van but i seem to remember a few A4 size signs on some bike screens.
Point i'm making is that i wonder how many people got the point of the protest lasy year, i mean mainstream TV news pretty much ignored it or consigned it to the traffic report.
But at least we were out in numbers and caused a spectacle.
At least that lady asked the question!

Reduce the number to 600 odd and make em pay to protest, its the Govts way of making the right to protest available (to comply with laws) but utterly pointless and a self gratifying act for those taking part.

Makes me sick.

The worst part to me is, if i go... theyve won, i took part in their restricted protest.
If i dont go... theyve won, i didnt go out and protest for something i feel strongly about.

I'm more glad with each passing year of the protests that i have taken part in over the years. May not be loads compared to some people but they all ment something to me and they were in the days where you were allowed to pretty much set your own route and dictate your numbers to the cops, not this other way round they got now.

It's also Silverstone WSBK Weekend......

RE the change of tactics, that's the way it is. If we were not doing this, there would be no rally.... its as simple as that. We would not receive the necessary approval to take 10,000 bikes to parliament... and if we dis, what would we be doing... asking the DfT to fund anti diesel spill leaflets for us.... well they are doing that.

I agree that the price £25 is putting people off. the problem I have is that I will have 617 bikes to refuel in 50 minutes, the only way that can be done is f I buy the fuel in advance, get riders to ride up, open their tank, a marshals will dispense the fuel and then they go and park up.

We simply do not have the time for each rider to refuel their own bike, queue up and pay for it.

The same applies to the breakfast. The services don't want 617 people queueing up for a breakfast, we could not feed these people within 50 minutes, so again, like the fuel, we are pre ordering the breakfasts and paying for them in advance.

Its the only way we can get you from London to Donington, without running out of fuel.

Your t shirt is needed so that we can identify you and to ensure you wont be stopped at the gates of bikefest UK to pay.

I hope you understand where we are coming from, It will be a great day for those of you who make the effort. Those of you who don't, well, that's your choice.
