Hello
I did my CBT on 15th Jan 2007 Bought a Honda XR125 on 27th Jan Passed Theory on 14th March (delay due to 3 wk wait before I recieved new photo licence) Passed A2 bike test 23rd April I am now looking for a bigger bike that will last me several years. I can get an 07 SV650 unfaired (dont what a sports bike) for £4k + restrictor £100 + OTR £100 = £4200 They'll only give me £1500 for my bike (bought new in Jan 07) so that leaves £2700 which Suzuki will finance at 3yrs 0% interest. So for £75 per mth I'll have a brand new bike. I am a little wary of getting on a bigger bike - more power and heavier etc but this is cheaper than the Bandit and no other manufacturer can compete with the offer. Is this the bike and deal for me a 39 year old bloke with 3mths riding experience of a Honda XR125? I would appreciate some help - Your comments will help make my mind up! ![]() |

Thanks Charris,
but I'd need to get rid of my bike which I wouldn't get much more than £1500 for anyway. So for £2700 I get a new bike. The finance term is irrelevant as it's 0%. I also get 2yrs warranty, 1 yr AA and I will get a courtesy bike when my bike needs servicing. |

Other bikes out there too that are cheaper.
ER-5 and CB500 if you are on a restriction...also old air cooled Bandit 650. Those bikes will be cheaper while still 33bhp...if buying new. |

With the SV650 I can get it restricted and on April 23rd 2009 it can be derestricted and it will be like a new bike (or so I am told).

Buy it Polarman - but finance it a little more so you can complete a DAS course and maybe a Bikesafe as well. Then you dont need to worry about the restrictions and gain more confidence at the same time. The SV was my first bike after DAS - its a great first big bike.

Polarman - an SV650 is a perfect bike when you are on a 33bhp restriction. My sv is restricted (its a 1999 's' version, the faired one) and its a very fun machine to ride despite is lack of power. The fun part is between 4 and 7 thousand RPM, but you wont get much more by revving over 8,000 rpm (least, I dont!)
Its a sound idea, but you dont need to buy new - there are plenty of well looked after used motorcycles going, and you may get one with some mods already done (crash bungs and front mudgaurd extension are a must for the SV in my opinon). If you go with buying a 4 cylinder machine, and restrict it, you may find the bike is lacking in grunt - I know a lad who restricted a GSXR 600, it wasnt long before he chopped it in for an SV - far far better. I've only been riding my sv for 6 months, bought mine brand new, absolutely no regrets.
It will last for years and it is great for a beginner, still not got my chickens strips down to a decent size yet, but wot the hey. Buy the bike! |

Thanks Guys
If I buy used I'll have the hassle of selling my bike which helps finance the new bike. TBH, I have neither the time or inclination to prat about for months trying to sell my bike. |
