Default Argh, soft or hard luggage

Trying to decide on which type of rear luggage to get for my pointy.

The bike came with the Ventura l-brackets and packrack fitted, so all I'd need is the Ventura Spada VII bag and say the storm cover for about £110.

OR

I could get a Givi box (yes hehe) for like £250 with the mono rack system.

Now the dilema is that the Ventura bag is very unsecure, can easily be knifed or simply cliped off the bike wherever I leave it, but it looks way better and more friendly to being lugged about. The givi monorack plate system looks horrible on the SV when not using the box but its so much more secure and provides a more usefull space, very quick to put on and off and is probably more watertight.

Bloody form vs function.

soft. Always soft luggage!

Seriously though, depends more what you're going to use it for really.

We use both..............soft luggage for just a weekend away, then add the top box as well for our European trips.

Not sure what the fitment of the Givi rack is like for a pointy, but for our curvy it's a ten minute job to put the rack itself on and off. Easy enough to just fit it as and when, and means we don't lug the horrible thing round for the rest of the year.

It is useful to have the security and waterproofness of the top box for all our important documents and stuff while we're away.

Well I'll only really use it once per month for a weekend away and maybe a couple of times a year for longer journeys up north or to the continent.

I guess I could end up with both systems over time, keep the main containers when selling the bike and just have to get a new fixing kit for the new bike.

Go with the Ventura, since you already have the rack. If you are truly worried about security, try one of these My daughter used one while travelling and had no problems.

I've just bought a secondhand pillion seat (£20) and givi flow box (£16) off ebay, I'm going to bolt the plate to the seat, lots of posts on here about this, do a search.

Of course, if you need to carry a passenger it's no good!

Good idea but a ventura spada VII bag is on the way with a pacsafe net for peace of mind.

I have just bought a coloured coded baglux tank cover and a black medea tank bag for my SV.

The colour match is brilliant and the design is fantastic. Not to mention second to none build quality.

However like everything it came at a cost

£81 Tank Cover
£84 Medea tank bag.

I have to say though I am 100% imppressed with both items.

I'd quite like to see the SW Motech system in the flesh, quite like the idea as a day tankbag kinda thing.

One pull takes it off then walk away with it, the fuel cap mod isn't too noticable.
