Default Problem with Fairing fitting Tail Tidy

Hello,
I recently shelled out the big bucks for a Tail Tidy for my 2006 SV650S but I'm having problems putting everything put back together. I'm hoping someone here might have had the same problem and can help me.

The rear fairing will not go forward enough to allow me to bolt everything up. I'm guessing it's off about 5mm. The fairing acts as though it's hanging up towards the back near the Tail Tidy but I can't pinpoint exactly where.

I verified that neither the tail light wire or seat lock cable are interfering. The neoprene side of the sealing plate is down and on top of the under tray and underneath the fairing. My invoice indicates I have product code 4201 for 2005-2007 SV's.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
-Mark

Edit: I used the search function but didn't anyone having the same problem.

Have you tried a post on svrider as well pearsonm? http://forum.svrider.com/ you might find someone there who's fitted the same kit as you have.

Or could you post an image or two so we can see which bits don't line up?

Thanks for the reply, Charlie. I did post at SVRider but didn't get a response. You guys seem to have a lot more familiarity with Evotech products so I posted here first.

I don't have my digital camera hooked up but will do so if this goes on much longer. It’s frustrating because I can’t see exactly where it’s hanging up. It feels like it's in the back where the taillight comes close to the Tail Tidy.

I sent an email to Evotech but haven't heard back yet. I’m hoping it’s something simple like maybe a wrong part.

I don't know exactly how the rear panels on a pointy are fitted, got a curvy myself, but have you checked all the obvious things like whether locating lugs are seated correctly? Have you tried searching for a manual with removal & refitting instructions for the panels? On the curvy model there are a couple of lugs that pop into a rubber grommet on either side and if you don't get them properly seated it's a swine trying to get everything lined up, just wondered if it's similar on the pointy.

Here are a couple shots. Like I said, the fairing is hanging up somewhere so that it can't move far enough forward to get the fasteners in. I'm guessing it's off by about 5mm. I don't know what else it could be but the Tail Tidy.

I've got a Hamicad tail tidy - dont know how different that is from an Evotech
It was fiddly putting it all back together - plenty of pushing and jiggling the panels around until it all fitted

Have you tried putting the panels back on without the tail tidy in place - that way you'll know for sure if it is the tidy or whether the panels just need a bit of force

I reckon you're trapping that left turn signal wire and that's not allowing the tailpiece to go forwards.

Also, try loosening off all the mountings and lining everything up again - if it all goes together just tighten it all up again. I had to do this when fitting a tail-tidy to my naked K3.

I fitted an evotech tidy last week with no problems, like lozzo says, make sure you are not traping any of the cables, give them a good push into the semi circle holes this helps to move the neoprean out the way. Also have you split the body work at the front. I found this helped me a lot.

That's what I decided to do but before I did I gave it one last try and it crunched into place. It's hard to describe but I think the difference was grabbing the fairing with my fingers on the under tray (where the pop rivets go) and thumbs on the fairing and poking the under tray up while squeezing the fairings together.

I think the folks at Evotech could build in a little more slack because the taillight is now crammed up against the front of the tail tidy but the faring bolts went in straight with no tension so I think I'll be OK.

Thank you very much for everyone's help. I got zero response over at SVRider.
