Some of you are cat owners, please help!

We're getting another cat to keep the mental little b*gger company. Farm cat/kitten to be named Chewie. who will be used to answering the call of nature in nature. I don't want him to get it into his head that he can use the litter tray instead, so I want to remove it. Permanently.

Now Artoo is used to using the tray. I figured that I'd just need to open the back door & close the cat wc & he'd just pop outside. First day I tried the little b*gger opened the cat wc door. Second day, I wedged it shut so he went on my bike cover. Nice.

How can I train him to evacuate outside? Can he be trained?

We're getting Chewbacca in about a months time so can I train Artoo before then?

i suggest a trio of pre-housetrained cats, then you can say...

"see, three pee outside"

coat, door, i'm already gone...

Probably not, maybe in 6+ months depending on how old Artoo is although Chewie wandering off outside may help, cats tend to copy each other

If Artoo is used to the litter tray, I think you'll have problems if you remove it completely. Our cats are so used to using one, they come in from outside to go to the toilet

My cat just started going outside by himself.

You could try putting the litter tray in the garden so he is used to going outside. Then one day just take away the tray.

we just moved the litter tray nearer and nearer the back door, then into the out house, then took it away, cats dont like being dirty but will go on plastic bags and in corners if you done get them used to going outside.
Having 6 of various ages helps as the older ones show the younger ones where to go.
