Default Congestion Charge

Just had a look at the proposals http://www.gmfuturetransport.co.uk/ unlike London, motorbikes will still have to pay but "less than a car".
Black cabs will be exempt, private hire will not.

No metrolink going to Stockport, stops at East Didsbury. Rochdale will get one via Ashton and Oldham

Peak times are 07:00 to 09:30 and 16:00 to 18:30. I can't find where the inner band will be.

Charging motorcycles might fall by the wayside depending on the cameras they choose. They obviously chose forward facing in London for a reason either cheaper or more effective. If there is a good reason for forward facing they may just think it's not worth the aggravation of charging a few bikes.
Don't see the point of exempting black cabs

I hope it will never go through! Paying enough as it is! It's not like I have nothing better to do then ride to town.

School buses are definitely a good idea. Everyone notices how much better the traffic is out of term time.

Not exempting private hire cars from the charge just means the toll will be passed to the customer, wether that's a good thing or not I'm not sure.

Motorcycles should be exempt as we do not cause congestion but I doubt that argument will be listened to. It is possible that we get away without paying it because they use forward facing cameras though.

It should come in about the same time as road-pricing......
Looks like a rfid job.
But it's ok the unlicensed uninsured unroadworthy cars won't get picked up by the system.

The trains in east disbury would be good if they were ever on time. I've arrived 40 mins late twice for a 5 min journey. Each time i was getting a train afterwards, and had to buy a new ticket..

Oh and charging the ring road?! Stupid idea. How about car pooling!?

And its nice to read that the transponder is NOT waterproof so bikes can't go down that route. Which means the alternative, registering with an agent - "number plate registration ...will be more expensive" .

Looks like I'll just have to get into work before 7am then... Everyone else will do the same and then, oh look, the windows of the charging time are extended so we all have to pay. It's bloody ridiculous. I have a bike so I don't have to sit in traffic and we'll still be penalised, and there's no way I'm using the train all the time because they're about 3 times dearer than using the bike and they're smelly and cramped. Gah. Little miss grumpy today

I will personally do anything and everything I can to avoid this ridiculous extra tax on me and my motoring habits. OK, so I don't drive into town at any of those times for work, I start at 0700hrs on earlies, 1200hrs on afternoons and 2100hrs for nights, but this will mean I get hit going home as I have to cross the M60 barrier. As Amanda said, I use a bike year round to avoid causing and being caught in jams and so we should get a paid to use our bikes! After all, by not using it and taking the car, I am actively incresing congestion.
All this will do is massively increse congestion on the minor roads not covered by the cameras. People will "rat run" through estates, so to prevent this, who wants to bet that the local councils will spend a fortune putting up new signage to force us through the tills, sorry, congestion charging points.
If bikes are to be included, transponder, agent or whatever (face, bovvered) then I will be disgusted.
There. That's better. Now off to Hawkshead fora day trip for Mrs Bluepete's birthday.
