Default Nurburgring trip May Bank Holiday 2008.

Would anyone here be up for it? I would be going around May bank holiday time 2008.

Now that I've done it I want to do it again. I would like to be able to do it again this year but need to see how money goes. It would be a 5 day trip, 2 days for travelling and 3 days on the ring itself. Also with time to visit the F1 circuit and museum as well as take on some of the astounding local roads in the area. Would also be great to go see the Nurburg castle which is something to behold (even if it is a little crumbled).

Costs are fairly cheap and a break down is below. Over the 6 days I only spent about £500.

Eurotunnel Prices can vary from £20 to £89 for the return journey from Folkestone to Calais. I paid about £73 return.

We stayed at the Hotel An Der Nordschleife which was 77 euro for a double room which slept 2. Facilities were fantastic and very clean and tidy. Very friendly staff and bikers most welcome (see here for more accomodation http://nurburgring.org.uk/where_to_stay.html)

The trip from Calais to Nurburgring itself is around 300 - 325 miles depending which route you take. It took us about 6 hours with lots of breaks but it's a really easy journey.

There are plenty of great places to eat in Adenau, a great Italian restaurant, traditional German restaurant and even a really good Chinese. There are also a few shops including a few big bike shops to have a nose around.

The ring itself is usually open all weekend, during the week it is usually open from about 17:15 to 19:30 which is quite cool as it is a lot quieter. 1 lap costs 19 euro, 4 laps is 64 euro and they also doa 10 lap and Annual pass but I'm not sure of costs of those.

For next year I would want to get deposits for the trip by Jan at the latest to book the Euro Tunnel and get rooms sorted. Deposit would be £150 per person to cover the Tunnel and hotel deposit. You could of course book yourself but I've had so many people back out of trips in the past it's much easier if one person organises it.

Register your interest here and I can get some idea of possible numbers.

Having done Rich's (Courdelion's) trip last year (and heading off this year too) I'm considering taking a bit longer next year and taking my MG as well - trailering the BlueBlade so I can play with both.

Unless I can convert my small flatbed I'll have to hire a trailer and a two bike one is the same as a single - so it could be a handy addition if the worse were to happen to anyone's bike.

I would be interested, but would prefer June/July time as earlier is a busier time for me work wise.

Hesitant maybe for me??

Never been abroad, will have to see how much money I have.

Oh, and K, recoup some of the trailer hire cost by charging some lazy git, who can't be bothered to ride their bike there, for trailer space. If the worse were to happen to someone's bike then the rideable bike can come off.

Though if Kwakadan has another bike by then and can't make his mind up which to take... he won't have to.

Money is the obvious other issue for me, which the more towards July it is the more money I'll have from being (hopefully) busy in May.

To be honest I want to take the Hornet round again. I had no problems with handling/speed on the course and don't see what benefit another bike would give me as the Hornet is so comfy for touring on too. Plus it will have a few mods by then so would be even better! Maybe we could move it to June/July as well. May was a bit rainy.

Ah, in which case I claim association by submitting to living in Bracknell for five years. Well, someone's got to.

Basically, I think we will try to limit our group size to about 14 or so. If we have much more interest then they will have to make their own arrangements but nothing stopping them staying at the same place etc. Basically I posted it here in the hope that I could go with some people I already know but pretty much fisrt come first served sort of thing. Once I have an idea of number I will try to get money off people as far in advance as possible, then I can book eurotunnel and hotel.
