Default Goodwood Festival Of Speed..

Anyone been who can give any advice?

Would like to drag the family down there for what should be a good day. Bit worried as to whether it gets so packed you don't get to see any exhibits, just a forest of people - 'specially as I will have an 8 and 5 yr old in tow

What time is it best to arrive, is the traffic horrific etc? Worth buying a grandstand ticket?

Any tips gratefully received

which day are you going?

we went on the sunday last year and there was quite a big queue of cars to get in but it was fine once there. we didn't get grandstand tickets and just found places to sit/stand on the grass to watch the cars/bikes going past.

going for all 3 days this year

No need to buy grandstand tickets. Just use your programme and make sure you get to the fence by the track 10 mins before the things you want to see i.e. for the bikes, get to the fence on the start straight so you see the wheelies and rolling burn outs!

There are also stands that you can just wander on to - standing ones - on the start straight and after the first bend. The one on the start straight has exactly the same view as the VIP tents and the one after the first bend has the same view as those on the terrace....so just go along and enjoy!

we got there a bit late due to hangovers. 6:30 seems rather extreme though.

what time are we going this year eviltwin?

The paddock areas tend to get very busy around mid-morning - I usually try and have a wander around them first, and then do the displays outside the house. The paddock area is a good place for spotting stars of motor racing - I have seen Surtees, Fittipaldi, Moss, Foggy etc all just wandering around.

After that, a quick wander around the stands and then I usually find a good seat in the Grandstand (usually sit opposite the house).

To be honest, there is just too much to see in just one day. It is an amazing day out, and the kids will love it.

If you plan on getting there after around 8:00, be preapred to queue on the A27 (unless you know the back roads )

A few photos from 2005 to whet your appetitie:-

I've never been, but really want to this year. The GP is on the Sunday though (24th), so is it worth going on the Saturday ?
