Default Silverstone yesterday..

Hi all,

Went along to a track day at Silverstone yesterday as a guest of another forum, and judging by the number of hands that went up in the briefing when asked if this was their first time roud the GP circuit I knew it was going to be an eventful day.

And how! Numerous red flags, a few crashed, and I saw one novice have a HUGE moment on the way out of Copse but managed to save it! Fortunately all riders walked away with just bruised egos. Then half way through the afternoon a bike (and a hire bike at that!) let go after the chicane and proceeded to dump oil allllll the way down the start finish straight and into copse (on the racing line) before spitting the rider off due to the back tyre being covered in oil.

This kind of killed the day off as even the fast group were not quite on the limit after that for obvious reasons. I also wouldn't like to guess what the bill was for clearing up the spill but as there were about 6 support vehicles involved I'll bet it wasn't cheap.

So, dont do Silverstone GP as a first timer! I enjoyed the day and would certainly look at taking part in the future, but take it up as a full time hobby? Nah, waaayyyy too expensive for me

I think it's an excellent circuit for a first timer, seeing as it''s one of the widest track day venues in the country.

Sounds like you had an eventful day though, and I wonder if the guy had to pay for that hire bike... Ouch !!

Blimey, didnt think of that. But surely as he had hired it in good faith then the fact that it went mechanically wrong should be down to the company that hired it too him. They had numerous bikes there yesterday and a team of technicians....

It was only the fact that the rear was covered in oil, as a result of the engine blowing, that it threw him off, so surely not the riders fault?!
