I don’t recall ever having a serious tank slapper on my SV … why is this? Is it because it doesn’t have enough welly to get the front end light at speed or have Suzi been really lucky and made a bike that has no harmonic (encountered in riding) that allows a big one to be generated?
Or have I just been lucky and they are an animal!?! ![]() ![]() |

I've had a couple of light slappers, but nothing I'd call remotely serious. Only one has ever made me think "Oh sh*t!" and that was after I'd been messing with pre-load on the front.

I think the bike is really quite relaxed to have a serious one, unless your baph and like to fiddle

Is a Tank slapper the start of a highside? If it is a have in the wet, jus got on the power too quick and too much n poo-d myself. I pulled over to the side of the road shaking because it really did shake me up, ran both feet over and had a burn mark on my leg. And the fact that it was 2 days after a drop on a roundabout.

To my knowledge & thinking, it's where the bars go violently from one extreme to the other. Varies in the extent to which the bars move (both distance and speed of movement), anything from a small wiggle to a full blown tank slapper (as in, bars hit the tank).
Small wiggles are normal on every bike ever designed. Tank slappers are slightly more dangerous, and could result in a high side. |

The head shakes, but it never gets serious. I have friends following behind on their "racier" machines on some roads and they have to back off the gas. The Sv is very stable I reckon.

Note that these were just headshakes and nothing like the one I had test riding the Aprilia Falco the other day, which was not quite a full tank slapper. ![]() |

The bars gave a definate left-right shake the other day but was nothing major. Apart from that I've only had wiggles when going over hills too fast etc.
![]() Turned into a junction the other day covered in gravel and the bike gave a little 'flick' like a highside as I got back on the power but I stayed upright ![]() |
