A topic from work today.
Does your car reflect your love for biking or is it a shed on 4 wheels just doing it's job as a load-lugger? Are they evenly matched for performance, (relative) comfort and desireability etc. And the biggie - which is your favourite! Maybe your bike is the hack, and the car is luxury in comparison??? The SV v's the Mitsubishi Galant VR-4 ![]() ![]() I'm loving both of them, but the bike always leaves me with a grin and I'll never sell it. The car will have to go someday, I just lack the willpower to give it up! It's a damn fine car that I lusted after for years before getting the chance to buy one. Just a shame i feel so bad ragging the car only to see 20mpg, which will be the main reason for selling it - U/L fuel has been over a quid here for so long now. And it should really be running Super or Optimax all the time, at £1.10p/litre. Between that and services every 4,500miles....Ouch! Anyhow..... you can't get performance for free! Performance is surprisingly well matched up to the legal limit. Beyond that the car is pi****g all over the SV, up to ahem....160mph (cough). Which i would expect, no demand!, from something costing 8x the price of a new SV. I could just as easily go 200miles a day in either and enjoy it, even in the rain on the bike i'm not that fussed. This all came about because another guy at work has a Speed Triple 900 (original version), and a Suzuki Alto - i think the engine in it is a 900cc too. ![]() The bike has twice the power but they weigh about the same (ok i joke, but it's close!). To top it all, the car was £5k new, much less than the bike. What is mad is that he goes no faster on either, "60 is fine" he says. Wierdo! lol. So what have you all got? |

Hmm, got a currently dead 1991 MX5 which probably does mirror (relatively) the SV - both are hardly high performance but sporty enough in their class, and both are huge fun.
The working car is an Audi A4 V6 2.5tdi - reasoning for that was pure sensibility, diesel + german = uneventful motoring. My reason for getting the V6 lump rather than the 1.9 tdi was just an attempt to add a modicum of entertainment to commutes and work trips. Favourite, in the right mood the MX5 really is a hoot, but on balance the bike would have to win. The Audi is purely for workhorse and comfort. |

My car is a '98 1.3 Toyota Corolla Sportif (sort of small estate car with a hatchback) with 120K on the clock. It is used solely to move things round which are too big to carry on the bike, in really heavy ice, or when carrying more than 1 passenger is neccessary. I've only put 1500 miles on it in almost a year and that included a 500 mile round trip to London. Why I chose it? Big boot, comfy, cheap to run and insure, massively reliable (Corollas make Golfs look like Ducatis IMO). No, it's not pretty, fun or good for when you're in a rush, but a bike ticks all those boxes.
I'd really like something like an ST-3, Impreza or (dreams) Evo FQ-400, but I know that: a) I wouldn't use them enough to justify it. b) Couldn't afford one without it crippling me financially. c) I prefer bikes (even "slow" ones like SVs) to fast cars and any 'toy vehicle' funds would go on a nice weekend bike before they went on a decent car. |

I drive a 1l yaris and ride a z1000. Seems that the yaris has about half the bhp of the zed.
Teehee, apparently the 0-60 of my yaris is 13.6 seconds. It has been a great little car though and never let me down (yet). Last edited by sarah; 19-06-07 at 03:13 PM. |

I have a Pug 106 rallye S2 which is pokey enough to keep me entertained, and I don't think many riders could live with it in the twisties. Relatively cheap to run, although I think I'll spend a few quid ironing out the kinks this summer.

My Polo is the same power as my SV (70PS).
I love my SV. I want to push my Polo off the nearest cliff, not really, but quite annoyed with it and a minor engine fault at the moment. |

Vauxhall Astra 2.0 SRI vs Suzuki GSX-R 600 SRAD so the car has the more horsepower by about 35bhp but both are great fun if a little thirsty on the fuel
