Default Cheap performance filter?

Stock filter right ... stock filter left - but after Blue_ got 'busy' with a drill

Put it in and it just ran way lean with stock jetting ... but what is there really to gain from a BMC filter (which I copied) over this?? Sure they are washable etc, but I get the 'HG filter deal', so its not like I ever pay for a new stock filter anyway ... I wonder how much real difference there would be performance wise over a proper race filter???

I took it back out of my bike as like I said it was running SOOOOOO lean!! ... but it sounded real good

I ran this with 155 mains and it went quite well.

Yeah, I ran one back to back with the RS- it's almost as good. Not quite. Maybe one jet size would have sorted it, maybe 2. Mids and idle were close enough that most folks wouldn't notice, certainly no pressing need to do needlework as it was. On the other hand it's also illegal for minitwins, which is a shame.

turbulance is the problem with a paper filter made to flow alot less air at a lower pressure, which effects midrange, part throttle and roll on response(which is why suzuki fitted a snorkel btw).
sure it can be made to work ok but not as effective as an aftermarket or even stock filter imho

but if you pay a tuner to do it its sort of legal under the term 'any commercially available filter'

I'd really hate to have to argue that with the scrutineers afer a win

I can't honestly say I noticed any of the loss of response that you mention, but then I only ran it for a short time in winter so it may well be I just missed it. I was looking mainly for mixture issues so I can see how that'd have happened. Interesting...

Interesting stuff guys!!

I too wouldn't like to argue it at scrutennering ... but one has to say that it isn't going to give any performance gain over a BMC filter, so why should it matter if the rider used it simply to save their self £many

But rules are rules from a racing point of view, it isn't worth the risk of interpreting them!!

Outside that, for trackday or road use it sounds like it is a feasible solution (but does need dyno time or at least an educated re-jet ).
