the process is schost or something like that, also, i get error messages every now and then saying that rundll32 has failed and is restarting.

Vista needs at least 1 GB of ram to run properly, 1.5GB or more is better.

Some cheapo systems are being sold with 512 and less fitted, it will run but not very well. I've got a Vista system with 1.5GB fitted and usage is 40% of that when idle.

Your post doesn't say how much you have?

How much ram has your computer got, Vista is notoriously memory hungry...

As to whats going on... I dont know it could be many things... Best place to start is to get your basic house in order, so have you got the following sorted out.

1. Up to date Anti Virus up and running and getting regular updates.
2. Have you downloaded some anti spyware such as lava soft Adware, if not do so run it and let it clean off the spyware stuff like this is also notorious for taking up system resources.
3. go to www.microsoft.com and run your machine through a windows update and make sure the operating system is patched with latest updates.

give all that a try and I bet it'll run alot faster... and it may cure the errors your getting to.

OK that SVCHOST thing is the service host, it makes bits of windows work, normally virus's try to exploit it to attack your PC...

I'm not that familiar with Vista, so I cant really help alot more, you've covered the basics already.

Have you installed any new bits of software or changed anything recently ? When did this start happening ?

Have you got all the latest drivers for your hardware installed and working properly would be the other thing I'd suggest checking.

Failing that I'd guess that you may have a hardware fault, but thats going to be difficult to diagnose if it is.
