Default Running a bike that isn't vertical.

When i fire up my bike, usually i'm sat on it at the time, but is it ok to just leave it on it's side stand while it's running, say warming up, I know bikes lean over in cornering but the central forces stay the same, hence why we don't fall off the side. Will any damage be done this way, i'm thinking for example, the oil level will not be flat in the sump etc.

Cheers, Tom.

no, you won't do any damage this way AFAIK. Do however be aware of the slope on which you've parked the bike, as it could roll forward and fall over.

friend of mine dropped his ZXR750 and rev'd it hard trying to pick it back up, the result was a heavily smoking zxr, i think he did the rings in.

I always allow mine to warm up at least to get the circulation going. Sort of a routine, bike out of garage, start up, go into close garage, grab lid and gloves, out the front door, lid on/gloves on, few blips of the throttle and robs yr mothers brother.

As others have said watch the slopes and as Kwak's mate will agree if it does drop (which it won't really now) kill it before lifting

The only thing you'd ever have to worry about would be if the bike was lying on it's side, as oil wouldn't be getting to where it needs to on every stroke.

Other than that, no problem at all! (When the bike is on the side stand, it's as good as vertical anyway)

Your not realy meant to leave a bike idling from cold something to do with running on choke for too long but shouldnt realy effect it.

what way u meant to warm it up then......

when i picked up my K7 a few weeks ago, dealer told me to let bike warm up to 50 degrees on temp readout before moving off!!
its good practice to always let your bike warm up from cold anyhow. (i do what toonyanks said )
gets everything up to temp.

I let her warm up while riding her nice and gentle till she wakes up, i start her up helmet and gloves on first gear! sorted! warms up quicker that was aswell. I have never waited for a bike to warm up always done it on the move... plus keeps neighbours happy.

I always start mine on the side stand and let it run while I put the lid and gloves on. Don't run it too long cos you're just wasting fuel, but no harm otherwise.
