Angry Stealing your ID.

Has anyone here had their wallet/purse stolen recently? Not that I found one or anything, lol. Seriously, what' are the normal procedures?

My girlfriend had her's nicked on Saturday. Had her cash, debit/credit cards, NI card, (paper) driving licence, store cards etc all in there. Cancelling the debit and credit cards was easy enough. And informed the police too.

But when she phoned DVLA to cancel the licence they didn't care. No point in cancelling it, apparently! They said it would be fine, just fill out form such&such and wait 3wks. Surely the thieving scumbag can rack up points in her name, use it for identity fraud etc???

It was a similar story about the National Insurance card. The woman on the phone said she'd never heard of/dealt with the theft of one ever. Apparently you are issued with one number for life, and that's it.

So now the theiving scumbag has two forms of ID with her details. Surely thats enough to order a false passport etc.

No wonder we in the UK are such an easy terrorist target.

Annoying isnt it when you are trying your best to maintian your security/identity and the "officials" just dont care or have a clue.

I'd suggest this as the best way of keeping tabs on whats happening. Get a Credit Report from Experian or one of the other main credit reference agancies. That will show any attenmempts under that persons name to get a loan or any other financial activity that you cant see just on a bank statement.

And tell them this is why you are applying for it and will want monthly or bi-monthly reports (i think they are cheaper if you set it up in advance). And then as soon as you see anything that wasnt by your g/f you report it and it gets dealt with...rather than wait till the baliffs are at your door demanding the loan repayments that you've missed for the last 6 months!!

Good luck with it.

I tend not to carry that much ID around with me for that reason! I know too many people who have had money go missing... it's a little daunting.

Why would anyone carry their NI card around with them? Store it safely at home. It's not like you ever need to use it.

I had my debit card cloned, A shell petrol garage that i use bing the prime suspect for the cloning. That and a programme i watched about the Tamil tigers etc working there and the stuff that the poor blokes working there have to do etc. Annnnnyway, i just got my card stopped, got a refund of the money taken. I had inform my IVA people incase anyone used the info to gain credit (Good luck to em, i cant).

However, if you have your ID stolen, then it can be a nightmare. As long as i can swap mine, then id be happy

all your official info like driving license, NI number, passport info are stored on the national database now so if scum wanted to get hold of any info they could, the important thing is to keep hold of the crime number as this is proof of the date the stuff was taken thats all the police do nowadays just issue crime numbers this country is well and truely going down the pan, even if the thieving gits handed them selfs in they would proberbly get told to not do it again its not very nice, lets start an SV vigalanty group and rid the country of scum. lol
