Question To unrestrict or not..

I got a call from my Suzuki dealer to tell me they are closing down the business. They told me I need to call in and collect the bits they have left over after they restricted the engine.

I've done just under 12 months with it at restricted and although I do not travel at high speeds very often, I'm wondering what the difference would be.

I realise this is all pie in the sky because I am not allowed to ride an unrestricted bike until this time next year. I will be packing those parts away until then.

You have a restricted licence for a reason (and it's not because some busy body in government says you should).

That should tell you the answer to your question.

When your restriction is over, a full power bike has it's benefits, not only for top speed.

Scenario: You hit a mercedes. Does £12,500 worth of damage. Police arrive, see your bike is not restricted. Insurance is void. You are in debt for the next 10 years. Worth it?

That was a fair, honest, accurate & succinct reply by SoulKiss, although it may of been more polite to ask you to do a search, as it's been covered a lot, and is generally frowned upon (removing restriction early).

I'm sure once or twice people have said the dealership has called to say they're closing down too. Personally, I find it quite hard to believe that they would bother calling. The usual liquidation procedures are that the liquidators wait for the debtors to get in touch with them. Whomever is owed the most gets what's there, anyone else can go jump.

But then, I don't know what's happened in your situation.

For what it's worth, I've ridden with a few riders who were on 33bhp SV650's, and they were by no means slow. Yes I was quicker, but that's a mix of confidence/experience/power. Mainly the first two. A restricted bike tends to run out of puff around 80mph. ie, you're already breaking the law if your bike runs out of guts anyway, why would you want to do that quicker, and more illegally?

Been a bit harsh here guys perhaps...

I dont think from reading the first post, that this person was intending to do it, just trying to work out what the bike might feel like when full power ?

Basically it'll have more top end perhaps 15 - 20mph more maybe a little more and it'll get there quicker. The bike wont run out of go at 90 ish mph ( on a track obviously )

Moofie - This is a bit of a touchy subject on the forum as we get alot of riders in your position who think its OK to de-restrict their bikes and ride around on a full power bike when they dont have a license to. If you have a search for previous threads you'll see its all been covered before and its got rather heated at times.

Scenario 2: You hit a Mercedes, it does £12,500 worth of damage. Police arrive, have no idea of knowing if your bike is restricted or not as it's just an ECU cartridge underneath the seat, and would be more occupied with taking statements and clearing the scene than checking for a bit of plastic, not to mention they wouldn't have any testing equipment there.
Chances are, you take the bike home, you change over the ECU to your standard one in the rare eventuality that your insurance company wants to check that out. (Baring in mind that the restricted ECU will still do 100mph+).
Worth the risk?

Don't want to advocate braking the law, and I would highly recommend waiting a long time before changing it over, but it's not something that they check as a regular issue.

Mate from what people are saying about the way i was at the AR i did ok on a 33bhp to keep up with them. Ok even i get frustrated with top end but there is one question you have to ask yourself.

WITH ALL THE CONSEQUENCES IS IT WORTH IT???
