Default Standard tires

bought a 07 plate sv650s in May, have still to find confidence (especially in corners) in the standard tires that came with the bike ( Dunlop D220ST), thinking of changing to Metzeler sportec M3,s. has anybody else found this.- tried tweaking the suspension, can only find if you tighten up the front forks it is a little better.

How long you been riding ?

I found the D220 were'nt actually that bad, yes there are better tyres, but they get a bad rap and I dont think they were that bad. What they dont like is cold or variable conditions though.

Not tried the M3's so cant comment on that. But if you want a cheaper tyre that lasts longer, have a look at the Metzler Z6 instead.

Dont get me wrong, that M3's will defo IMHO give more grip than the D220's, its just the D220's IMHO arent as terrible as alot of people make them out to be. But if you're used to the stickier rubber, then yes you'll probably find as you are that the D220 is a bit hard, they seemed to me to take ages to get any heat into them and I think thats what the problem is with them.

Have a read of the tyre section, you'll find it here

http://forums.sv650.org/forumdisplay.php?f=138

You'll find loads of stuff on tyres for the SV in there.

I really like the Pirelli Diablo Corsa III I have on my GSXR, but I dont know if they come in SV sizes..

HTH, welcome to the site

thanks fizzwheel, think I will go with gut feeling and change to the M3,s. Have to say the D220,s is not a bad tire just going on past experience.!!

Go for bridgestone bt014`s

as fizzwheel says the standard tyres arnt that bad but then they arnt that good, they are probably ok as a commuting tyre, i found that they didnt inspire confidence at all, im on z6s at the moment and find they have good feedback and you can feel them digging in and gripping a feeling you just dont get with the 220s.
Get some heat in them before you start pushing it, and be smooth with them especialy in the wet and you will be fine. Then when you have worn them out time to fit some better rubber and play. Or if you have the expendable funds junk em and fit some better rubber bridgestone 014s, metzeler z6s or michelin pr2s you wont go wrong with any of those.

I'm on std tyres for the past 14months since I got the bike and have had absolutely no problems at all....there is about half an inch of stripe on the rear tyre and have no problems either 1 up or 2 up
