Question Coolant Topping Up

My coolant has dropped very slightly below Low mark in the reservoir.

Probably 1/8-1/4 inch.

I'm going to top it up, which means getting the bikin fairing off.

Was wondering how often folk have to top up there coolant if at all.

It was on the low mark or very slighly above it when it got serviced, which included a coolant change at 7k, back in May.

Anyone got any tips for removing the top ikini fairing?

Cheers

Only time I've ever done it between services was when the water pump came loose and started leaking... It's probably nothing in particular to worry about, as long as your oil's not yoghurty and you've got no visible leaks, though. You can refill on a curvy with the fairings all on, if you have child hands like me, not sure about the pointy.

You don't have to take fairing off.

Just lift the tank an top up the reservoir that's all.

Yeah but to totally flush it out you need to get at the radiator cap at the top to be able to flush it through, i worked out that you don't need to take the whole fairing to bits to do this.

You either use a funnel with some tubing to get at the filler or you can take out the pointy fairing bolts either side just down from the tank and take out the the two bolts where the fairing frame meets meets the bike frame just down from the steering yoke using a wrench then the whole fairing drops enough to clear it.

Yeah, was reading haynes, and sinc I can't get the same coolant, I got two bottles of Motul, so seeing as evryone says don't mix I'm going to drain it.

Looks like I might be able to get the pressure cap off without removing the fairing. Sorry wasn't very clear on that.

Can get into the reservoir no prob, only thing I am short is a new sealing washer for the drain plug. Might be lucky an find one in the parts database at work tomorrow.

Thanks for your tips guys.

Cheers

Are you going to flush or just drain and replace? Just wondering what a 'flushing compound' is...

I don't thik i'll use a flushing compound. Just rinse through with water.

I think flushing compounds are basically designed to remove any gunk? Kind of like a degreaser. Which can build up in the cooling circuit.

Since it was changed in may a water flush will do i think.

personnaly for the amount of coolant you have lost i wouldnt bother draining the whole system unless you really really want to.

that would be a job better left for a rainy day imo

just top up the reservoir with water, the amount you need will hardly alter the concentration of engine coolant and it'll take about 10 mins.
