Default Vacuum Gauge

I need to do the Throttle Body balance on my K4, and was wondering if these 2 cylinder guages would be appropriate:

Do I need the 6mm adaptors, or will the included 8mm adaptors be sufficient?

TIA,

Ceri.

I know those are meant to be really good, but I just want a cheap one as an interim one. I am saving up for a Goldwing (6 cylinders) so will probably buy a more expensive one with 6 guages when I get that in a couple of years time.

Don't waste your money on the ones from Busters, I've used them inthe past and they're rubbish (cue others to contradict me). It's worththe money for good ones, I use Davida http://www.davida.co.uk/type.php?id=gauges A pair used ot be around £45 but you can balance a four with a pair of gauges. Not sure about a six, you might need a set of 3, but one for each cylinder is an ideal but a bit of an expensive luxury. Dunnno about the FI models but you don't need adapters for the carb models, there are stubd there already. The adapters are for bikes which have blanking screws in the induction stubs. On the cheap ones these are screwed into the ends of the brass tubes so unscrew themselves when you try to remove them.

Okay, bearing Johnnyrod's advice in mind and ruling out the one from busters, if I were to get the carbtune you recommend, Caddy2000, will that fit the k4 with all the standard bits it comes with? Ta.

Fits like a very supple, well loved glove!
They are very easy to use, and even come with adaptors for different carbs - which you don't need for the SV.
I've used them on my SV (K3), a Bandit, and will be using them on Ping's SV (curvey), and a Blackbird.

Not used a Carbtune to be honest, but not heard a bad word so they can't all be wrong! Been using the Davida gauges for 15 years and also happy!

Don't waste your money buying a gauge you will only use about once
a year. Make your own from several feet of 5mm inside diameter clear poly pipe and some 3.5mm inside diameter clear poly pipe to connect to the vacuum nipples.

Warm up your engine first.

Loop the larger pipe round the bottom of a long piece of wood and use tape to run the length of pipe up the wood for about 4 feet so it is in a U shape. Poor some liquid in the pipe like some light oil or even water so that it creates a column about 10 inches high. Add some food colouring to the water if you wish so it's easier to see.

Cut two lengths of the small pipe about 10 inches and connect them to the vacuum nipples and then push the free ends into the free ends of the U shaped pipe so that an air tight seal is formed.

Pinch the pipes while starting the bike and then let the pinches go. Look at the U shape pipe, the side which has the highest column of liquid has the highest vacuum. Adjust the balance screw so that the columns end up the same height. Keep revving the engine and let it settle a few times and recheck the columns and adjust again if needed.

Leave the smaller pipes connected to the bike but blank the ends and use a small cable tie to hold them in place for use in the future.

Cheap, very accurate and takes 5 minutes to make.

Don't for get to pinch the pipes while starting though.

For 4 cylinder bikes instead of having a U you can use T connectors to create 4 columns.

With the money you save you can buy me a beer

Tim.
