Default Cheapest way to get a new phone?

Buy a pay as u go and put your sim card in it
Buy reconditioned phone

Problem being I don't want to be "In contract".My contract has expired about 3 year ago and I can't get the same again with Orange. I want to stay with Orange as the family and employees are all on Orange so calls between them are free.
Currently 400mins and free text for £15 per month but can cancel any time

You can buy a phone from tesco for the mere sum of £6.99. There a whole range of cheap ones from £6.99 upto £19.99 some of which are actually pretty good.

O2 are selling the LG GB102 for £5. You can then ask for it to be unlocked by completing this form (not sure if you need to purchase credit and/or use the O2 sim before doing this however). And if you go through a site like TopCashBack they'll give you £3.50 for buying the phone.

Otherwise eBay, Gumtree, or any number of similar sites for a used/unwanted simfree phone.

Unfortunately I want one which is GPS compatible[Ovi maps], with a decent camera and storage card or large memory capability.
Budget £100-150,plenty of options it is just the cheapest way to acquire one.
Cash Converters near me have a G3 iPhone for £125 but the battery life is low in comparison to some of the others available as "Pay as you go" offering the facilities I want.Another question while on here, when using GPS does it come off your free minute allowance and can you still receive calls when it is being used.

Put another way,it is to save on carrying an iPod,GPS,Camera and phone when on my travels

Orange are selling their San Francisco Android phone on PAYG for £99, and it gets excellent reviews. Can also be unlocked cheaply should you decide to move to a better carrier.

Quite tempted myself as I have £35 in my Orange phone fund so could have it for £65, but I am getting quite fed up with the terrible coverage that Orange has down here in Devon.

If T-Mobile is better then sign up on the following link. Orange and T-Mobile are merging so it means you can use both networks for the same cost. The Orange website explains it better. https://kareena.orange.co.uk/share/

GPS itself is free - GPS talks to satellites that are completely separate from the phone networks. Where you get the cost is the data that the mapping applications download.

I'm not sure how OVI maps works, but I know google maps downloads the map data every time you use it. If you're just using it occasionally this isn't likely to be more than 100kb or so per use, but if you're using it as a navigation device then it'll be much more, and you need to look for a contract that offers unlimited internet.

Also check the fair use policy for data, as sometimes they say unlimited then set it to 500mb really.. 1gb should be plenty.

the difference between ovi maps and google maps on android is on ovi the map is fully downloaded to your phone. Google is downloaded as you use it.
from reviews the San francisco is a good phone, what tarriffs do orange offer sim only? im sure they have a 30 day rolling contract too so no stuck in to a 18 - 24 month deal
