How easy - install rear hugger & belly pan

Figure that now I 've had the SK1 pride & joy for nearly 10 days it's time to customise it a bit.

I've got some clear, teeny indicators to fit, but I'm also tempted by a black rear hugger on ebay & a belly pan (which I would also spray black).

How easy would it be to install the hugger? Would I need to remove anything major to fit it? Ditto the belly pan? Any specialist tools needed?

I saw an SV t'other day with a full fairing set on it & the look wasn't for me.

Hugger is a piece of p*ss to fit.

Unbolt the chain guard, by the shock is a small plastic flap that is bolted to the swingarm, unbolt that. Undo the clip for the rear brake hose.

Your hugger will probably ( mine did ) use these points as mounting points for it. Bolt it on to these mounting points and it should be fine.

Don't know about the bellypan can't imagine it would be to difficult though.

Bellypans vary from manufacturer to manufacturer... I love the Pyramid Plastics one, and it's pretty easy to fit- assuming you have a standard exhaust system that is. But if you're spraying it, be warned any bellypan will take a pounding- I don't see celly clearcoat lasting at all well.

With any luck I'll be fitting it on Saturday morning.

Next pay day I'll look into the belly pan...or earlier if I don't eat for two weeks!

Thought I'd reuse an old related thread...

I've got a 99 SV naked, I got a hugger [unfitted] with it an oxford? one. Trouble is non chain side ? hugger has 2 holes and all I can see is the flexi pipe bracket??
There was no bracket or fixing kit - should there have been? I can make something but not sure what I'm trying to make!!

Any pics or www pointers - did search for 15mins prior to this post........

attach the hugger to the hole for the rear brake cable.

That side has 2 holes and the hugger doesn't have a lip - it looks as though there should be a bracket, that uses that mounting point but shoots out both sides about 10cm each way to pick up a hole that's on the vertical side of hugger.

[The hugger on this side finishes at the swing arm, the holes are further up about 30mm, that's why I reckon there should've been the bracket tucked on the inside of the plastic -the only bit u'd see is where it tabs out to take up on the brake cable.

As northy says they're all different, but for reference, the OEM belly pan on the K5 has four mounting points, the front two are to brackets attached to the crank case (easy), the back two however are to the rear engine mount bolts. Not tricky as such, just immensely tight (45nm if I recall correctly), so find a home made breaker bar or something. Oh, and I also recall it being a teensy bit tricky to do the rear one with just one person as on tightening back up the other end (it's a single long bolt) just span, so had to wedge another wrench into the ground to stop that end moving.

Good choice of hugger.

I've got a Red Fox. Good fit and sits around the rear tyre squarely.

I've used some penny washers on all the fixing bolts to spread the load though as the first one crazed around those areas.

looked again and the hugger should def have a bracket - I'll make something at weekend....
